I think they are pretty safe. I talked with Matt from BDM while in Sturgis and he was very confident for BDM'S future. European sales are strong, they are finishing up their expansion in dubai and are working with an un-named manufacturer to open corporate dealerships in Austrailia. He also told me that US SALES are enough to keep the doors open but not enough to grow, they are maintaining.

With the overseas expansion he expects to bring many of the former employees back and they have focused on streamlining the processes.

There are 2 sides to every story but Matt was positive about Big Dog being around for a long time! I echoed that we Big Dog owners didn't want to see they go anywhere.
This is good news!

The owner of SLC Rolling Thunder (SLC BDM dealer) told us in Sturgis that his dealership was one of the top BDM dealerships in the nation and had sold nine bikes this year. (I guess that is why most of the Dogs at the BDM truck in Sturgis were from his store inventory).

Now that Ironhorse is gone, I doubt that any major manufacturer has a competitor for a bike like the Greyhound at that price.

Long live BDM!

Ray,
I was also told at Sturgis by Matt that the new bike would be called Greyhound, are you saying they have already changed their mind on the name?

Damn, as usual Raywood is right, why did I doubt him. Here is the new model announcement.

NEWS ANNOUNCEMENT

Big Dog Motorcycles has officially changed the name of the 2011 Chopper/Greyhound model to: “K9-250“

We have spent years developing our popular model names like K-9. There is an association to that name when it is mentioned. We all know that the K-9 is our number one selling model, so why not chip off that block and call the new champ “K-9 250”. Think of it like SS454 Chevelle, RS350 or Z28 Camaro.

Since the inception of the K-9 it has always been compared to the Chopper model. The sales people have always mentioned the basic differences in the backbone, downtube, 10” over frontend, and the 250mm tire. Once those features are identified – the customer understands the difference between the models. I like the K.I.S.S. program – the less confusion, the better. Especially with eight models now.
