I have heard from a friend of a friend who's mom was married to a butcher who's dad worked next door to a midget who had insider info from a mail clerk that delivered mail to drug addicts who delivered tires to BDM. The new bike will be called Great Dane. Not Greyhound.
our info was from a dealership who got the info from a person at the dog house. i guess we won't know what it actually is until it gets posted on the co. webpage, but until then----:cheers::cheers:

Better name than the Mutt in my opinion. No offense to Mutt owners because they are great bikes, but I think they could have done better than that.
True I tell people when they ask about my bike that it is a prostreet style big dog. It keep it easier. Many have heard of big dog but not the 1 year only model of the mutt.

Bad dog, no bisquit
I like the Mutt name. People seem to get a kick out of it. Of coarse, I'm no pedigree myself.

Before I bought mine I did a searched on google about the introduction and review of the mutt. BD wanted to come up with a more affordable starter model. This bike was a "motorcycle" "under" "twenty five" "thousand" dollars. It was released at a list price of $24,995 when the going rate on the others was close to $30.000. In the summer of 09 they were selling for $19.999.

I vote for Doberman. They are the best damn dogs I have ever had in my life, the biggest babies too!

Greyhound is what we were told in Sturgis by the SLC dealer who was manning the BDM truck. He directed us to the nearby bike show tent where there were a few "manufacturers" entrys amongst the many customs. BDM was next to a Motor Co entry and a Big Bear entry. The dealer told us it would be in the $20 grand range and it would replace/bring back? the Big Dog Chopper.

Anybody else see it? Here are a couple of pics. The black "SOA" type bike in the second pic is the Big Bear entry if I remember right.

The Big Dog sales team at Sturgis told me the bike is almost ready to be released at a price of $20,995. Harley style hand controls and no EHC to hit this price point. Doubtful that it will come with the handlebars painted as shown in the pic, but they did that to get feedback at Sturgis. I sat on the bike and I think it is very sellable at this price.

Big Dog was parked right next to the Harley display of new bikes. Most of the Harleys on display were loaded with massive amounts of add ons and doo-dads raising their prices significantly. I was shocked to see most of their bikes with a 20k MSRP loaded up and tagged closer to 30k. Didn't make sense to me in this economy.

I also saw it in Sturgis. Noticed it didn't have the cross brace between the forks and was missing the guard over the drive belt. Might be it wasn't complted at the time of the show. It did have the Harley controls.

When I first saw it in the show, I thought it was a Chopper model. With the exception of the primary, side by side with the original Chopper it is pretty much indistinguishable. Personally I think the HD controls and foot pedals are a plus. They allow for a much broader range of customization from several sources rather than the limited choices currently available for the proprietory controls.

They can call it the Dachshund for all I care, as long as it sells good and keeps the company going. I love my K-9 and want to see Big Dog around for many more years.
I think they are pretty safe. I talked with Matt from BDM while in Sturgis and he was very confident for BDM'S future. European sales are strong, they are finishing up their expansion in dubai and are working with an un-named manufacturer to open corporate dealerships in Austrailia. He also told me that US SALES are enough to keep the doors open but not enough to grow, they are maintaining.

With the overseas expansion he expects to bring many of the former employees back and they have focused on streamlining the processes.

There are 2 sides to every story but Matt was positive about Big Dog being around for a long time! I echoed that we Big Dog owners didn't want to see they go anywhere.
