WICHITA, Kansas – Big Dog Motorcycles began temporary production furloughs on Wednesday.

In a move to adjust production levels, the company says the furloughs will last through the end of the year. Totaling about seven weeks, they will include an immediate four weeks to be taken with an extended holiday leave.

The company blames the challenging economy and lack of consumer spending for the furloughs and says the affected employees will be eligible for unemployment benefits.

I briefly talked to a guy from customer service yesterday and he sounded really depressed. This explains it.

It does suck but it's a lot better then locking the doors and telling the employees to hit the road.. I'm sure they will loose some more good employees over this but what can you do under the circumstances.

Hell yea--- lets go back to tax breaks for the rich to stimulate the economy and maybe attack another middle eastern country so more people can get jobs in the military.

How about this economic solution:

This is from an article in the St.. Petersburg Times
Newspaper a few Sundays ago.

The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix
the Economy?"

Dear Mr. President,

Please find below my suggestion for fixing America 's economy.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander the
money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following
plan. You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force. - Pay
them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the
following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire.. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new American CAR or motorcycle. Forty million cars/bikes ordered - Auto / Motorcycle Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing
Crisis fixed..

It can't get any easier than that!

P.S. If more money is needed, have all members in
Congress and their constituents pay their
taxes...

I heard a rumor Sheldon is going to let the whole thing close and relocate the business to Malibu - where he lives. Just a rumor. Who knows if it's true or not?

As screwed up as the tax system in Cali is...I can't imagine ANY business moving there. Businesses from there have been flocking here like crazy the least several years...Austin Tx. the new silicon valley.

Buy a bike

I just bought a 2009 K9 and love it. Free markets rule! I just wanted one and didn't wait for a deal. I got exactly what i wanted. If you wait you no one will deliver.

I agree, there's no way California could be any more tax friendly then KS.
