I just joined the group. Finally own a chopper. My question is: I purchased a 2005 ridgeback with polished wheels. What is the best way and the best polish to use on these wheels. They are in good shape but I would like them to shine a little more. Any tips appreciated.

Thanks,
Daren
I found the easiest to let my wife do it! women are great as cleaning tool also if you do your home work at home they do a extra good job just a thought:flag:

Welcome to the site and congrats on your purchase. Before every event in Daytona I remove and wet sand my rims. But during the regular polishing, I use a metal polish I get from 75Chrome truck stop just south of Ocala. But its about $20 a quart, and doesnt take much to bring out a gorgeous shine. No Powerball, all elbow grease. Plus with the pointy tips on my 05 rims, I figure it would shred the sponge on the ball. Good luck.

Coolbreezin --> what's the name of the polish you mentioned?
Is it only available at truck stops, or does it show a website on the bottle?
I'm always looking for the next "best aluminum polish"! :2thumbs:
Thanks!

Hey guys,

Youre welcome. Glad I could help.

I met a guy that owns a detailing shop. He uses "Pimp Sticks" when he does bikes. He gave me a kit, so dont know how much they are, nor have I used them yet. Good luck.

Mothers is great I use it too, a lot . But after I used Mother's on my wheels and chrome I went back over them with Weiman's silver polish ( Walmart home cleaning products isle $3.50) and It has been on there a while now and the areas I went over don't seem to get a dusty as before ,,,, It will make Billet shine like a mirror too,,,

Blue Magic works miracles!!! You can use it on chrome too, it polishes every type of metal, I even made a old penny look new. I use it on my rims and it makes them look chrome. I chopper is black and every part on it is chrome or polished, I have tried everything, I even spent a couple hundred on rouge and polishing wheels, blue magic works best. I rubbed the paint with it trying to polish the metal holding my front fender and it didn't leave a mark. I got it at pep boys, it was 17.99 for a small container but now it's like 5.99 and I have had it over a year which is good because I polish more than I ride.

This is what I got back from browns plating...Which Iam thinking of going this way..

Steve

Thanks for your inquiry into or plating services, you would be looking at $740.00 to $840.00 for the rear wheel 8 inches or wider and $640.00 up to $740.00 for a standard front wheel, turn around time would be 6 to 8 weeks.

Thanks

I just got my '06 BigDog Pitbull about a month ago... ALL metal on this bike is anodized and looks like hell... they guy didn't put any love into it. I would like to go over all the metal, I have bought Mother's Billet Polish and Adam's 2 stage metal polish... Now, I have 2 questions. 1. How hard is it to get the back tire back on to really get in there and polish everything back up... ie, how do you know the belt is tight enough etc etc. 2. How do you clean the engine side that has the push rods... there's no room and my engine looks like he sprayed something on it while still hot... SPOTS EVERYWHERE!

Ok... I must have skipped page 5 yesterday with the link on the rear wheel... reading it now.

Every year I R&R the wheels and wetsand them. As you said, while they are off I also try to get into every nook I can reach. Im not sure of the extent of your damage, but my fins pitted horribly 6 months after buying bike new. Big Dog Corporate blamed me and told me to piss off, so it was left to me to resolve. Ultimately I ended up powder coating the jugs and tranny case. You may want to consider it as it changes the appearance of the bike slightly and you can reach the other areas while that part is off.

I am constantly trying different ways to polish my wheels. I have, of course, the mothers power ball and cone. I bought the mini ball first and I just couldn't get much out of it so I bought the Mothers Power Cone and it worked better. I tried the Black Magic version which is cone of like felt flaps, it may work good for somethings but I couldn't get it to work on MC wheels.

Lately though have been trying something different with success. I bought a right angle and straight pneumatic die grinder. I use soft buff pads in them. You can find them on Amazon or even at Harbor Freight. They are a little smaller and work real good on my pitchfork style wheels. To get into the hard to reach places like the contours of the pitchforks, I put small dremmel type buffing cones in the grinders and it works well I just use caution around my metal because the shaft of the buffers could damage the aluminum if the accidentally make contact.

As far as what polish I use various products and try anything mentioned by anyone of this forum. I started using McGuires and then switched to Mothers. I saw someone on here talk about Adams 2 step polish so I ordered that and tried it. Adams worked extremely well. Recently Aspen suggested Mothers "Billet" polish which is different from Mothers regular and little more expensive. I bought some but have not had a chance to use it.

Here are some pics of the buffers I use:
