Best way to polish wheels

Jacking it up takes the ache out of the back. Plus using the power ball on the front allows the wheel to spin and polishing goes faster. The extension gets into places that usually causes you to bleed. After the wheel, use the power ball and hit the rotors and brakes. Using a old rag, let the power ball wrap it up and then use this to polish where you cant reach.

I did a first pass on all the polished aluminum with Simichrome by hand, and it did a great job. Took about 2 1/2-3 hours. Used 100% terri-cloth towels to apply and wipe off. I then did it again with Mothers Billet Metal Polish ($15.00 /4 oz. container). Took about a 2 hours this time. The Mothers took the shine to another level. The bike looks just as good as new if not better. Both the Simichrome and Mothers actually seal against oxidation. It should be good for 1-2 years. Half of days polishing by hand was worth it to me. Had a few beers, some good tunes, in the garage, and it was raining outside.
I was going to try the power ball and drill but did not want to take the chance, with my luck, having the drill/ball getting lose and damaging the paint or something else.

california customs purple polish its called, and a shitload of shop rags. absolutely the best to use, takes time, but will look like chrome!!!

How about a bike with spokes? I use Pimp stixxxs and Luster Lace,it is time consuming still a bitch to get around in there with the rotor and pulley in the way,but it comes out with a nice shine.Does anyone have some ideas? Beside drinking a case of beer and spending all day on them :lol: :lol: :lol:

I have used this on the rig and bike if you use it with a the mothers ball or CONE it will look like CHROME and it comes off very easily with a good terrycloth towel. The bottle is $16.00 plus shipping from there website and it will last you a couple years.. The BEST :2thumbs:
I wouldn't mind hearing some good ideas on spokes. The wife's nightser has em and I"m sure they'll get dirty.

Howdy.....new to this site....I have a 2008 K9, Black. I use "White Diamond" aluminum polish on all my aluminum parts. It's some great stuff. Made by Kuryakin or however you spell it. And I use the Mothers powerball on my wheels only. This polish is the consistency of watered milk. Use it.....you won't regret it. You'll never think about chrome again.

Before every event in Daytona I remove and wet sand my rims. But during the regular polishing, I use a metal polish I get from 75Chrome truck stop just south of Ocala. I dont recall the name and its too damn cold to go way out to the garage (I live out in the country) and look. But its about $20 a quart, and doesnt take much to bring out a gorgeous shine. No Powerball, all elbow grease. Plus with the pointy tips on my 05 rims, I figure it would shred the sponge on the ball.
As for the frame, I use regular ol' Polishing Compound from Wallyworld.

i go over them first with wizards wadding polish to get the big shit then again with mothers billet polish for a mirror shine!!!
What grade paper are you using to do this? Seems it would remove the polished finish or scratch it real bad.
I would like to hear more about this as my wheels have taken a beating over the years and have many scratches and pits. May be time to try something different to restore the original luster.

Hey Raywood,
I use 2000 grit and basic dishsoap. I use light pressure on a wet dish sponge on the back of the wet sandpaper, so the sandpaper maintains the shape of the rim evenly. Keep the area wet and slippery. I then use some old wornout 2000 grit. Then I use the aluminum polish. In this case, less (pressure) is more (better results). 2000 grit is available at any auto parts store. I got mine at NAPA.
If you have any old aluminum lying around, practice on that first.
