Belt Tension

I know it must be on here somewhere, but I can't find it. What should the proper tension on my belt be?
And don't just say "enough to keep my pants up"

tighter the better!

You have to be on the bike to check it (pre load) I think the book says something about 5/8" of deflection (maybe that’s the primary) oh well. They have a special tension gauge, I just tighten the shit out of it my self, you can pull up on mine about ¼” but its stiff!!

I would go with big dog spec. To tight can cause vibration and premature bearing wear.

Thanks guys, I guess I'll have to find a body to load it with. I would think it would be somewhere around 1/4 to 1/2'. Owners manual doesn't say.:job:

My manual has it in Chapter 11 Alignment.

Belt Tension Gauge HD p/n 35381

1/4" to 1/2" deflection @ 10 lbs of force with rider weight.

Next page shows taking the measurement from the top belt not the lower.

Later,
Ray

Thanks Ray, I'll give that a try:up:
Looks like I'll have to break down and get a service manual.

Well boys, my service manual (2006) came in today---it ONLY has 6 chapters, and nothing covering alignment or belt tension. So I'm still in the dark (kinda), it doesn't cover everything I think it should. I'll check with Big Dog and see if I got an incomplete manual.

That don't sound right. Anything about rivisions on the upper line. I posted mine somewhere on here. They sent me a complete new manual after I emailed them. Shoot them an email and see what they say.

Good luck,
Ray

It sure does. Just waiting to hear back from BD. It's sure not worth the $100 the way it is:bang:

Well boys, here's the latest update. According To BDM, the 06 manual ONLY has the 6 chapters. So, Anne (customer service) is going to send me an 08 complete manual. Between the two-it'll give me everything I need. Anne's an awesome lady to deal with:2thumbs: :2thumbs:
