Belt slipping

Energy One
Good evening, I have an 04 Big Dog Chopper 117cu in. When I really twist the throttle hard especially two up my belt slips on my rear sprocket has anyone else had this issue? Belt and pulley have some wear but not that bad. Belt is tightened to specs maybe a little more. Any suggestions? Thanks...

Had actual mechanic look at it he said it had some wear but should not be slipping. Maybe I need
To tighten up a little more...

When you say spec, how much deflection is it now?

Well when you twist the belt with some effort you can't quite twist it a 1/4 turn. I no know it all and trying to pretend to be but isn't it true the more weight the looser the belt gets and nine outta ten times I'm 2up approx 350 Lbs.

They make a tension gauge to measure the deflection. I bought one a while back and it takes a bit getting used to it.

So tell me what is right at the point of being to tight without a gauge by twisting the belt. 1/8 ???

Ive gone through this very thing. Tighten the belt and be done wit it. I replace front pulley and rear and belt. In the end - nothing worked - under heavy acceleration the belt slipped. So I found the choices to be: lay off the throttle, tighten the hell out of the belt, or find a balance between the two.

Shansel88 that's what I am asking when you tightened the hell outta the belt did it stop slipping??!

That's what I would think, and it should be on the ground, not up on a jack cause the tension is different with the weight of the bike on the back tire. Assuming the pulley teeth are in good shape, some one on here had shown one not to long ago that the pulley teeth were sharp from wear

Maybe you need a new belt if that's the original

I posted a picture of my wife's Heritage rear pulley that were worn in half and all the teeth on the belt were cut loose on the load side.

Didn't answer my specific question: are you SURE the belt is slipping and NOT the clutch?

Lots of guys have had issues with the clutch slipping and 99% of the time it's because someone put synthetic fluid in the primary because everyone thinks if it's synthetic, it has to be better. That WILL make a clutch slip in these bikes. Plain old Harley primary oil is all you should use. NON synthetic.

No sir I am not 100% sure I do how ever know it has plain ole Harley primary oil in it I cannot swear it has never had synthetic in it.
