Belt question

I have been a member for a few years now and changed my email address so I opened a new account, my previous name was chippy chad.
During my last ride of the season last year I blew my belt while passing a car at 75mph (that was exciting). I purchased a new belt and have read that the stock pulley is only good for about 15k miles. My bike has 14k and I am assuming the reason the belt broke was because the teeth have squared up? I have the 65 tooth sprocket with a 1-1/2" belt. Can I just put a Harley 65 tooth pulley with a chrome cover on it so it will last longer? Thanks guys!

Welcome back from Washington State. That pully looks pretty bad, did you get a rock trapped in it? You can contact bigdogpartsking, I'm sure they would have what you need...

Send your pully to that place in Arizona that puts teflon teeth on it. Someone help me out with the name, I'm having brain gas. I know a guy that had it done years ago, and it's still looks good. I'm going to do it the next time I need a belt.

Have 20,000 miles on my bike. Pulley looked like yours (worn out). Wanted to keep the factory 'custom' pulley because it matches the rear wheel. (Couldn't find another one.)
Had SuperMax put poly teeth on my pulley. Didn't mind spending the money to keep the factory 'custom' pulley particularly since it will now last virutally forever.
Works great!

After I looked closer it appears to have a pretty good groove down the center like I had a rock stuck, I have to drive about a mile of dirt road to get to pavement from my house. It looks like bigdogpartsking has a new teflon coated pulley for $99, do you guys think it will hold up better? I have dealt with them before and they are good people so I would like to give them the business. Supermax looks like the best option but if I remember right it's really pricey. What did the total job cost DynoDave if you don't mind me asking?

Pulley

I did the same thing you are thinking of doing. Bought a pulley from Shovelheadkicker (same seller as Bigdogpartskingpin). Before ordering, I contacted him, gave him all the details of my bike and asked if it would fit. He said it would. Got the pulley, took the old one off.....it didn't fit. Thing is, I have ordered a lot of parts and spent a lot of money with this guy. Rather than apologize or attempt to provide any reasonable customer service, he gives me nothing but attitude. Says I must be blind to see that it wouldn't fit. (You can't tell the hub design until you get the old one off.)
Still have the pulley......wanna buy it?.......probably won't fit your bike either!

To answer your question, poly teeth overlay cost $575 including shipping and insurance. (For 65 teeth 1 1/2" belt pulley.)

Sorry you had a bad experience with them Dave, I purchased a starter from them last year that didn't work out and they bent over backwards to make it right. I can't spend $575 on a pulley right now, I have half our house gutted and my wife would shoot me. Since my bike is a 2001 it does have a lot of Harley parts on it but I figured the pulley was PM because it matches my rims? Dave I am going to tear it apart on Wednesday so maybe I can take some pics and measurements to see if your pulley will fit and maybe we can work something out.
