BDL belt drive

the bearings in my BDL drive are completely shot, and so is the rear cover of the drive. ( has small crack in it) i called BDL to get replacment parts, and they are telling me to replace only the main bearing, and to just leave the front empty without any bearing. They said the front bearing has caused more problems than good. just sounds weird. Has anyone heard anything like this before?

Also, the bolts and holes that hold the primary cover on seem to be stripped. Has anyone ever used thread repairing kits on their dogs ? like Helicoil, or Time-sert?

I've had many BDL drives and had no problems but I would say I'd replace the front bearing. There is a lot of stress on the crank shaft and that bearing helps. The stripped part is the alum back plate which is threaded and could be corroded. I'd just run a tap through it to clean it up. BDL makes 2 front plates, 1 with 2 holes and 1 with 4 holes. Which one do you have?
