Got an 04 Chopper, used, 5500mi. Lots of wiring issues. EHC took a dump, upgrade to 05 EHC, Took gears out of starter. Bought new starter. Now it turns over but hits hard like hitting a big can of loose ball bearings. hard loud clanks.
New battery, New starter wiring. Gone over wiring several times. What makes the starter hit so hard?
Timing sensor changed last fall. Ran for about 500 mi. Hasn't run since. Not frustrated. Have plenty of patience. Other bikes to ride.

Insert title here...
When you say "timing sensor" I assume you mean "cam sensor"?

Are you sure the timing is right? If it's advanced too much it can cause troubles like you've mentioned...

No I'm not sure the timing is right. Had to install a new sensor. Ran ok for about 100 mi and hasn't started since. Can you do a basic time on it? BDM's service manual says no. This is a late 04 bike with the 117 motor. They call it a special edition.
I'm good on old HDs, but I'm somewhat lacking on this one.
Thanks

Have you checked to see if your compression release valves are working properly? Reach over the the rocker box and feel the top of the compression relief when you turn the motor over. You should feel a it "click" down when you turn the motor over. Also, do not give it any gas on the throttle while cranking. This will increase pressure and cause hard knocks with your motor.

I did my 107 just like old HD's. Rotate #1 cyl to just before TDC, take out timing plug, slowly rotate (jack up bike, remove both plugs, put in 2 nd or 3rd gear) tire until mark ( TB???? I forgot) shows up in center of hole, and that should be 35 Degrees BTDC ????(I forgot these details also). ANYWAYS worked perfect, timing perfect, adjusted G and runs like the proverbial sexually assualted primate!!!
