BD Ride Comfort?

I'm going to be purchasing a bike with in the next 6 months. I'm probably leaning towards a mastiff. Although I've heard that the K9's are little more comfortable, and there growing on me. I'm not going to lie comfort-ability is important. Considering I'll be riding to places like Montana and Southern California. I live in Northern California. I know some of you have taken some long rides with these bikes. Any info or reviews is appreciated.

I have no experience on riding the Mastiff, maybe someone else can chime in on that.
But as far as comfortably on my K-9.....:2thumbs::2thumbs::2thumbs:
I've ridden for 40+ years, and on the street for +/-20 years, I'm 6'-2", 220 lbs and it's the most comfortable ride I ever been on. I've ridden for 9 hrs. in a day many of times, only to have a slightly sore azz afterwards for about an hour. An in my book, if that's all I experience..."THAT'S AWSOME!" :2thumbs:

There's my half of a penny. :D

It depends on your riding style and how the bike fits you. I would get to a dealer and sit on as many models as you can. I recently purchased an 09 Mastiff. I was torn between the Mastiff and the K9. When I sat on the K9 I felt small on the bike, this helped me make my decision to go with a pro street style bike. I love my mastiff and have not second guessed my decision once. It is comfortable enough to ride all day. Here is a pic of the Mastiff with the dual intake, V&H big radius, and a few extras like spike accents and pegs.

I started (BDM bikes that is) on a Mastiff. Didn't like the low position bars so changed them out to get my arms a bit higher.
Still when BDM came out with the RSD in 05 is was just the excuse I needed to get the Chopper which I wanted the first time anyway. You wouldn't get me to change back now having had both styles.

Go to the dealer, ride all the bikes you are interested in, then you decide what is best for you, get it, then lets ride.

I own a 05 Chopper and my son has a 07 K-9 and the ride is a lot better on the K-9 , it sits lower, the bars come back to you better and the overall ride is better. I think it is that it just fits better than the Chopper.

I've got an '07 Mastiff with air ride and can ride all day comfortably. I wouldn't trade it with anything.

I have a Mastiff and have spent many hours in the saddle including a little over 700 miles in one day. Comfortable for me and now complaints.

That said, I lean more towards the Pro-Street style, however as many have already said, what works for one may not for another. I am pretty sure all of the BD will surprise one on the comfort level for the type of bikes they are. Still if it is an ill fit, you will never be comfortable.

Highly recommend that you try out all the styles that are of interest to you and then narrow it down from there. Also if you find a style that you like but may not be the best fit, keep in mind that some adjustment can be made with different forwards, seat and bars if needed.

Good luck and welcome to the site

I've owned almost every type of Harley (Except a V-Rod) and I now own a Mastiff. Don't expect it to ride anything like a Harley. They're 2 completely different animals. I also live in So. Cal. I'm a daily rider and I do a lot of road trips. I prefer to ride my Mastiff whenever possible but I take out the Road Glide (aka Geezer Glide) when I take a long trip. That said, I have no problem doing 300+ miles a day on my Mastiff. The roads in So. Cal have highway grooves and it can sometimes make for a very bouncy ride. Sometimes my the muscles in my upper back will tighten up if the ride gets too rough. I just loosen my grip, relax and it usually goes away. The K-9 is also a great bike. I rode both models before choosing the Mastiff. In my case, the Mastiff worked better with my riding style. I ride a lot of twisites and the Mastiff just handled better for me. My friend Maria rides a T-Rex and she can rip though the turns faster then most men so it just depends on your riding style and abilities.

The problem with your question is .......

Think about this for a minute. The question you are asking is so hard to get an answer for other than half of us love our Mastiff's and the other half love there K9's.

They both truly are awesome bikes. I love my Mastiff and would not trade it for the world but would love to have a K9 also. Just like some guy's love trucks for road trips others like riding in cars for long distance.

I don't have one complaint about my Mastiff in ride and comfort. I rode a friends K9 and loved it also. Each is a little different. This is going to come down to how you like to sit in the saddle. Ride them both a few times and then decide.

In the looks department they both excell in there class one is a custom pro street type bike the otehr is a custom bad ass chopper style. They both catch a ton of attention and are fun as hell to own. I am 100% you will be happy with either one.

Or......Buy one of each and let us know if you would get rid of either one.....LOL Good luck

Those T-Rex are something else for sure, not knowing Maria but I am sure that seeing a lady tearing through the roads on one would be even more of an attention getter for sure. :2thumbs:

I also bought a Buell 1125 recently (took advantage of the Fire Salse), one thing I can say is the BD no matter what model is a hell of allot more comfortable than my Buell and I would imagine any Sport Bike. I will say that the Buell is allot of fun on the Twisties for the little I have been able to try on it.

The Mastiff though still will be very hard to replace for long rides and just taking it easy, especially when I can do so with many of the good members on here.

I have owned both...a 04'Mastiff (which I loved) and in 07' switched to a K-9. With having put miles on both...I feel much more comfortable on the K-9...bar height, sitting in the seat..not on the seat...seems like your center of gravity is lower on the K-9! Can't go wrong with either!!
Enjoy the ride!!!!

I was really torn between the Mastiff and K9. The dealer told me to basically chop the two bikes off at the bottom of the gas tank forward and both bikes would be identical. According to them, the ony differnce is rake, tank position, and bar length. To me, I felt like I was sitting on the Mastiff when riding, but felt like I was sitting "in" the K9..does that make sense. It was night and day different for me...I'm 6'1, 230 pounds also. K9 was my choice after riding both back to back.

I have owned a Harley sporty nightster and man after an hour or so of riding my butt would hurt like you wouldn't believe. I tried changing seats and that helped a lot but I still wasn't satisfied. I traded the Harley in for my now 08 Mastiff and it was like night and day. The seat was way more comfortable, the power blew me away and the balance is awesome. I'd suggest you test ride them, the bike will pick you out. I'm 5' 7" so the low profile of the Mastiff fits me well. I've ridden from Washington State to Vegas with no butt or back problems. For a pro-street it rides well...

I agree with you Brew the Mastiff is a real comfortable bike for long rides. My friend has a K9 and you are sitting in the bike, with the Mastiff you are sitting on it, sounds weird but you will understand when you test ride them both its a different ride I went with the Mastiff but then traded it for the Wolf. And I wish that the Wolf had the Mastiff seat.
