BD out of Business, No warranty, What options do I have?

Ok, I understand Big dog is closed and warranties are void but I need advice from someone. I purchased a pitbull in March. I had to replace the regulator at my own expense and now the paint is beginning to bubble around the gas cap and the chrome on the front fork shocks are starting to flake and bubble in a few spots. Is there anything I can do to have this fixed by BD dealer or will this be all my expense also??? and who could match the BD customer paint for the tank? Thanks

Another round please
You can call BDM. But they are all gone. Hence "Out of Business". It sucks. Good luck. What year bike?

Sorry to hear the troubles, but unfortunately I think you will have to pay for any repairs. Did the dealer you bought the scoot from give you any warranty? If so, then they may cover it. If not than you will have to cover it…

Go buy an aftermarket extended warranty for your bike then it will be covered. Once ya get it covered .... call airbrush-Ed and he will get you right with your paint,,,,

for the newbs that don't know about airbrush-ed, he is a member here that was a painter at BDM. but to say he was just a painter is so far off base that it isn't funny. his job was the highest end one-off level 13 paint jobs you could get. there are probably factory paint schemes out there that he would have to dumb down to repair but i am certain he can do it.

give him a call.

I would contact your dealer and see if he can provide some relief. BD is gone and left the dealers holding the bag. A good dealer will want to try to keep his customers happy and while the ultimate cost responsibility is sadly now yours, I would hope the dealership would try to give you a break.

Unfortunately, dealers are not the manufacturer and cannot warranty chroming issues or paint issues. Chromed items had a very limited warranty on them anyway...I want to say 90 days? BDM was covering issues with the paint saver/ gas caps WHEN THEY WERE IN BUSINESS. However, BDM is no longer and dealers are stuck just like customers. BDM Performance Products is a completely different company and will NOT address any of these issues-at least they haven't with me and my company. Believe me, its not fun. I had a customer's gas tank over there specifically for that issue when they closed their doors and we were damn lucky to get the tank back. Unfortunately, the paint wasn't complete and there was absolutely nothing they would do for us for our customer. Extended warranty companies do not cover cosmetic issues- which in the end, that is what the issues you outlined are. I am not trying to be Pissy Pessimistic, but just trying to be completely up front with you so that you know what you are dealing with. Your dealer may be willing to get the stuff fixed for you at a discount to try to help you out. It never hurts to ask. Good luck.

Yeah what Amy said, third party warranties are written with so many exlusions and clauses that you need an attorney to understand them. They are in the business to take your money, the less they have to give back the better.........for them.

Sorry to hear this happening to your new scoot. Here is what is probably going to happen to your shocks soon though. I had this happen to mine last year even before they went tits up, and I was still SOL then. Started with the bubbling, and then the full peel. I am still stuck with the fully peeled version now, trying to find a replacement somewhere. Probably going to have to re-chrome it instead this winter.

and then there is the option of going with an "American Suspensions" springer front end and then you would have a fantastic new front end and the chrome warranty from that company.

I bought my 2010 K9 new from Strokers last month. The GM did include with the bike a 2 yr extended preferred warranty which covers the same items as the Big Dog warranty would. I'm certainly hoping that I don't have problems with the bike right off the bat as other members have. I feel bad for them. Nothing is worse than buying something brand new or almost new and then having problems. This is my first Big Dog. I took a chance because I fell in love with theses bikes when I first learned of them. I've been riding for about 20 years now and have had 9 kawasakis and 1 honda which I still have. I dont recall ever having to put any money into any of these bikes except money for normal wear and tear items such as breaks, tires, and oil changes. I'm hoping that if I take extremely good care of my Big Dog like I have my previous bikes, that I will have the same good luck.

Sport,
What issues have you had with your '09?
the only problem i have had so far is the smile won't wipe off my face:up:
just thought it was ironic that i searched far and wide for what i was looking for(a yr or better) and looked at 100's of ridgebacks, talked to dozens of dealers, finally find the "one" we come to a agreement on a purchase price... done deal:D 3 weeks later they sell out. if i knew that earlier it might of swayed me to have a custom built bike.

Bob Lockwood is not a dick. I've dealt with him for 2.5 years and he's done more for my customers than anyone else at BDM. He is not the owner, CEO, or hell, even management there. He can't perform miracles. He does what he can and has gone above and beyond many times. How many times have you dealt with him? Obviously not many if you feel you should post that type of crap. RANT OVER.
