Battery not charging when running

One other check to do. With the bike not running, disconnect the stator plug and set your meter to read continuity. Take the negative lead and touch it to the engine case. Take the positive lead and check both terminals of the stator in the engine case. Make sure neither of them have any reading to ground. You want them both to be on an open circuit.

ok so the VR grounding checked at 00.5

Continuity? Im guessing that is when you set it to beep when I contact the leads to the wires? If so do I want it to beep?

That's one way to do it. When you check the stator plug for continuity you don't want it to beep on this test.

Your voltage regulator needs replaced. Probably had a diode fail on the rectifier. You need to take it to a dealer and have them do a warranty claim on it.

Just got done replacing it. Not a bad job at all. Fired her up and battery jumped right on up to 14V.

Thanks again to all. I kept it BDM due to the warranty. May look to upgrade in the future...we'll see how this holds up...hopefully for a looooong time!
