To all that have 07 and newer bikes ..Have you had any problems with the covers breaking or falling off ??? Did BDM fix this problem or does this problem still happen .. Chime in and tell us what your experence is with this ??? While at the Dealer the other day the counter person told me this was still a problem ...if it is tell us what your repairs have been if any!!!

Mine just got replaced under warranty. On my broken ones I used an old license plate, cut to fit and pop riveted into place to repair.

i am having this same on my 05 ridgeback just thought it was because it is a hardtail. ordered new ones a month ago and still waiting on them, something about being an off season for painting. Good luck

No problems here, but you gotta be real careful when you put them on - they are supposed to float in the rubber bushings, and will break if you tighten them down.

I've had bad luck with my side covers. Both of have cracked.

On one side the bolt had fallen out. Had the dealer put a new bolt in when I had the bike in for service. The next time I took the seat off I saw a completely broken off tab. :bang: The other side cracked in the middle, nowhere near a tab.

fyi- I have an 05 ridgeback

Sent my second broken set in on warranty replacement about 4 weeks ago. This in on an 05 Bulldog, still waiting for there return.

While talking to my dealer service rep about 4 weeks ago, she told me that another fix was coming out for the ridged framed bikes and assumed that they would come out with the same fix for the rest soon after. Sounded like they were cutting off most of the banjo bolt ear and then clamping the rest of the ear into some kind of rubber clamping type bracket. I'll ask more about this when my battery box coweling come's back from painting.

The fix (for now) is a bracket BDM sells for abut $20. It's T shapped and goes underneath on the inside - you epoxy it into place. If the tabs crack the bracket will hold it in place. Most dealers will include the bracket for free during a warranty replacement.

the top tab on the right cover on my 07 k-9 is cracked and i plan on bringing it to the attention of the dealer on my 2500 mile service (another 500 miles to go). i probably should have done something with it this winter but i just have not gotten to it.

Mine cranked and the dealer replaced them. Had to ride several weeks without one side because I had the send it in to match the paint. Also noticed the plastic air scoop on the bottom cracked. I will need them to replace that next.

so far I haven't seen any issues with my side covers. Knock on wood. they are secure and no signs of cracked tabs. Mine's an 07 Chopper with 8393 miles on it. I obviously ride it a lot. :)

There is a new mounting kit for the side covers on the softail models, for the hardtails they have a reinforcement kit that has 2 hard plastic shells in the exact shape of the side covers that go on the inside of them.

Second set of side covers broken at the tab.

First set replaced at around 1400 miles. I know the torque was right I checked it myself 5" lbs (finger tight) on the bolts.

Detailing K-9 today after 200 mile ride yesterday and found left side tab broke on second set. 1900 miles, they sure didn't last long.

Got to call dealer tomorrow. I'm sure it will get taken care of.

R&B Cycles. Do you know the part# of the "new mounting kit" for the 07 K-9? Trying to pull together some information as to how to stop this from happening again.

Fixing your side covers for good!

Mine broke and after getting a new set, I added some Kevlar to the tabs to reinforce them. The Kevlar is dam hard to cut but will last.

Is your thinking that the Kevlar will stop the tabs from breaking or just holding it together IF they break? I assumed you used fiberglass epoxy stuff?
