Bare Wire on Starter

The main wire from starter to solenoid started cracking and exposing the bare wire...I removed the end from solenoid and slid 2 layers of "shrink tubing" over it to base. I hope this is all I need to do..no starting issues...
Just wanted another opinion if this will be ok or not.
Thanks in advance.

It's a common occurance. Bro2 and I covered ours with heatshrink tube. I would also seal the starter cable entry side with liquid tape as well over and above the heatshrink tube fix. This would help keep water from getting into the cable and starter guts.

Postman and I noted the same thing on his '08 K9 while doing the "wire plus". Did a simular patch but did not seal with liquid tape at the starter. Good info there, THANKS.

Damn. Seems like It's an epidemic. Noticed the same thing while doing the wire plus. Was going to try to find a how to and I think I just got lucky.

Not just BD's have seen this on a lot of bikes. AIH, Swift, Etc. Seems like the coating kinda dry rots. Also may be heat from hard crankin cause ya Flooded it from using the ENRICHENER! Yea I know retarded.:2thumbs:

I think every single bike has that same problem. I know mine does and I've asked the dealer about it and they told me it was a common problem. Heat shrink tubing is the answer.

Mine too! can't help but wonder if this is what was causing my starting problems, a LOT of people believed to be battery problem, NEW battery still acts up... going to get a wire plus and shrink wrap the starter cable... this forum ROCKS!
