Bandit Clutch Setup

My 05 Chopper has started the infamous clutch slipping this past week. Looks like most of you went with a Bandit clutch. What else do I need beside the clutch kit (thats not included in the kit)? Where did everyone get theirs from and how much?

I tried email wbcycles, but looks like he's gone until next week.

get it direct from bandit. You need your stock hub pressed out of the old carrier and into the new. You get everything you need in the kit.

just check to make sure the hub nut didnt back off before you spend your cash.

also the early 05's had the weak carrier

You'll need the clutch kit and the carrier. They are separate. Also have them press a new bearing in the carrier and don't have a shop try to take the old one out and into the new carrier.

Thanks guys... I'm just going to get the kit and carrier as bdmridgeback mentioned. After reading and seeing pics of all the problems others have had, I think it's owrk the upgrade for the added piece of mind.

My K9 also has the infamous slip. had it in 4 times during warranty period still does it. My question is if so many of us are having this problem how do we go about getting BDM to pony up and make it right. I know I know I might be dreaming but seems to me they know about the problem and are choosing to ignore it.

Is your bike completely stock? If so It shouldn't slip. BDM designed that clutch to be just enough to hold the stock power. But as soon as a set of pipes and filter are added into the loop, the clutch is no longer strong enough. You can buy a stronger spring for the stock clutch and it will be an improvement, but your clutch lever will be hard to pull.

With the bandit clutch, the clutch pack is bigger and made out of better material. So the clutch pull is very soft but the clutch hooks up twice as good as the stock set up.

Don't forget that you will need to grid part of the inside of primary cover to fit the wider clutch pack. There's pix and instructions in the how-to-section. Great clutch. You will not regret going to the Bandit set up. :D

Glad I went with the Bandit setup with the new carrier!! See pics.

Question though... Any tricks for getting the shaft off the old carrier bearing? I can't get the damn thing to budge.

Take it down to your local autozone and have them press it out and into the new carrier. That's what I did.

I am reposting prices here so you guys don't have to chase around for them:

Complete Superclutch - $300
Carrier - $95
Carrier Bearing & install @ Bandit - $48
Shipping - $16
Quart Amsoil Severe Gear Synth. 75W-90 - $12
O-Ring for primary Case- $12

Total $483

If you order a new BDM hub to have pressed in instead of trying to get the old one out, like I did, add another $50 to it.
My local service center trashed the old hub trying to remove it.

I fortunately have an ole grey bearded and long pony-tailed biker dude working at my local autoparts machine shop so he does all my wheel bearings and did my clutch hub. But I agree most shops probably wouldn't know what they are doing with a motorcycle part. Just have to do some research on your shop first.

I just replaced the clutch carrier on my 05 Rdgeback. I parked it as soon as it felt it creep. Cleaned everything. Soaked the clutch fibers in new oil after cleaning. The new carrier was $75 from BDM, had them press the parts back onto the carrier for another $20. Adjusted the push rod....so far so good for 300 miles.

I can tell you where NOT to go to have it pressed! Tampa BDM!! $100 just to press it and it will take them at least two days! Come on!!! Left laughing with it unpressed thinking and you wonder why you cock suckers can't stay in business!! Took my business to a local bike builder who did it for $20 in less than 30 min.

Yep, call them direct!
My local shop is a Bandit dealer and they don't get enough discount to even cut me my normal parts discount on their stuff.
I checked into Bandit a couple of months back to set up with them.

The guy was cool as hell but you are exactly right about the discount they offer to dealers. He even said that they will give 10% to customers over the phone if asked.

We will set up for our own use but by the time we would have something shipped in and shipped back out to a customer, it would be more than going direct.

My advice would be buy direct as well. :2thumbs:
