Ive been researching batteries lately because I need to change mine. I called Ballistic becuase a local dealer here has stated that a few people have had LiPo batteries in their bikes catch fire, not Ballistics. Anyway, the tech at Ballistic said the biggest contributor to the LiPo batteries over heating and catching fire is buying too small of battery. He said the Big Dogs have issues cranking because if the 117" and same issue with 124" bikes. He said not to buy anything smaller than a 24 cell LiPo for a big inch bike if you want the battery to last. Their 16 cell wont hold up.Mine Blew up. It didnt make more than two pathetic starts. Hopefully they are improving.
When I bought it from the Jap bike shop, plenty of their customers were using them successfully.
Not so lucky on the Big Dog. And for what its worth this was the middle of last year so the construction/ability may have changed.
Also like to point out the Braille is still going strong!
The new compufire VR only charge between 13-13.5 volts and I think this is to help lithium batteries. 14.4 is lead acid only, I actually talked to Braille recently who said 14.4 will reduce the life of their AGM and any tender shouldn't exceed 13.4-13.6.Ive been researching batteries lately because I need to change mine. So, just in case your shopping for a LiPo, just keep that in mind.
you can buy a 8-12 cell "HD" replacement LiPo on Amazon but they will not perform for very long.
AND....he did say make sure that the Regulator is always in working order keeping charge voltage below 14.4 volts. if it spikes above that...Like Oldskuul said, It will go Super Nova on your Ass!!!
