Baker 6 speed trans

Bought an 06 k-9 about 2 months ago. It has approximately 7500 miles on it and the trans went about 3 weeks ago. While riding i heard a noise and the bike went into "neutral." Clutch lever just flopped around. I took the bike to Rockstar customs in NJ. They told me I need a new trans. Said the main shaft snapped in half. Possible bearing failure caused the problem. Now they say Baker doesnt have any cases and Im looking at over a month for a new trans. Any suggestions?

BAKER = over-priced, over-rated. If you make a warranty claim, it's like explaining to them you just saw a UFO.

Get a Trik Shift. First tranny to have a 5 year/ 50,000 mile warranty. If you have a problem they usually give you a choice between a new part or just exchange the tranny. The TrikShift gears are harder than the Baker gears and they handle the high torque V-Twins better. It's also 1/3 the price.

I dont mean to say anybodys rong but... first the the K9 or any 05 up BigDog uses a non industy standard offset on there tranys and there are tons of threads on it here about that if the shop your dealing with says you need a new transmission cause you broke the mainshaft I wood go and load up and leave cause they are lying to you,BigDog haint got nun but Baker does and they cost 170 bucks I think as I ordered a bunch of parts besides it if you cant do the work yourself they will rebuild yours for a hundred bucks plus parts.If you got an 06 look at the old main shaft and look at the date code if it is an 06 you got a good mainshaft that just snapped but chances are it will be an 05 as the newer ones just didnt break but beware on buying a tranny the offset is completely different

Same exact thing happened to me, Baker transmission, very low miles and it went to crap. Refused to pay them anymore money for a new transmission or have mine rebuilt. Listened to peoples advise on here and got a brand new Ultima transmission, for 1/4 of the cost and a warranty. Have had no problems with it at all.

Problem is they wont fit 05 and up his was left hand drive and generic harley wood fit wheras ours is right hand and propritaery

What Chopper werks said. Ditch the bitch and get a good trans. At this point I thinking anything other than a baker would be an improvement. Also get a 5 speed. unless you really like shifting!

I have contacted Big Dog and Baker and they both are telling me they dont have any cases to build and send out a new tranny. Baker said I can send it to them and they can probably rebuild it. I have been told that I will have a problem replacing it with another manufacturer's tranny. I just called Rockstar customs(where the bike is) and they are telling me trans still on back order and they wont refund the $2500 deposit I already gave them. They said they ordered trans thru Big Dog already. It's going on a month now.

I had my Dog at rockstar for service. They had it for just about 2 months. My dog was popping batteries and they couldn't figure out why they thought it was my EHC they fought something was shoring out they weren't sure. To make a long story short it was my voltage regulator causing the popping that I had suggested the service technician to check out. You would think they should know without me telling them that right. So look before you rule out you trans cant be fixed or replaced for what rockstar said I would get a second opinion about you got goin on with it and what can be done to correct it because I don't know if I'm sure they really know what truely is goin on with our scoots!!!!

That's not right. I'd be on their front door looking for answers on why they cannot cancel the order and refund yer deposit if BD nor Baker can ship a tranny. just sayin

Hey make sure you get all the old parts after thay fix it as I will buy them from you my tranny just took a shit last week the bolt that BigDog said to replace as a recall on the countershaft gear assembly sheared and rammed it into the trap door ate my trap door and ruined mycountershaft gear set so Im in the market too

Buy the way thats a good deal that Karata`s got cause a new tranny cost from BigDog is about 2100

Update. Rockstar gave me a refund! they charged obviously for the labor but said a trans wouldnt be available intil December 16th. I picked it up and started tearing it back down. A buddy said he will give me a hand rebuilding it or at least trying to rebuild it. Rockstar included a new gasket set and a new push rod. (the old one appears to have snapped then fused itself back together,) The Main shaft is definitely snapped in half. Have to grab some air tools to get the clutch basket off so i can remove inner primary. Looks like I have to remove the suspension to get to trans bolts too. Oh fun!!

mine shaft broke at about 24000 miles, I called baker and they rebuild for about $400.00 total. this happen coming back from ocean city last Sept. they also gave me a 1 year warranty parts and labor but I had to ask for it. bakers labor rate was only $50.00 hour which I pretty much just paid for part because they new this isn't suppose to happen.

The main shaft part number is BDM110-00229 and dealer is 145 and retail is 176 but BigDog haint got none as I have been trying for 2 days to find one,used to be Burt Baker wood sell us parts cheeper than dealer for BigDog transmissions but he now is charging a hole lot more cause he claims BigDog owes him so much money which is Bullshit but he has the mainshaft you need be sure to ask what date code as you do not want one with an 05 thats the reason yours broke Baker part number is towards the end while you are in there I wood check all the bearings both gearsets shood be fine I bought a new mainshaft just to be on the safe side cause on mine the recall bolt that I did put in sheared and rammed my secondary gearset into the trap door which sent aluminum junks all through mine... so I`m replacing all the bearings and trap door with parts and knowing folk Im spending about 400 bucks

Whatever you do don't get an Ultima either. They only have a 2 year/ 20,000 mile warranty. The TrikShift has a 5 year/ 50,000 mile warranty and you can get one for $1,125.00 or less. They will out last a Baker or Ultima.
