well I tried taking out the baffles in my v&H BR and one came right out and the other is stuck. I ended up having to remove the pipe because I noticed one of the nuts that holds it onto the engine missing the other was pretty loose too.

How do I get this baffle out? Heat up the pipe with a torch?

also is it possible for the exhaust not to leak when it's loose? I don't see any signs of it leaking

Thanks

I had a bitch of a time getting one of the baffles out of my buddies Big Rad. pipes. And then, when you get them out, It sounds like shit too. Obnoxious loud and decel pops real, real bad. Sounds like a VW without exhaust on it! :loony:

He was pissed to hear it sound that bad after two hours of trying to get the baffle out.

Did you try to put the little allen head bolt back into the threads but on the inside of the pipe... also spray some wd40 or something around it... it will come out..

Why are you pulling them?

Cutting them down?

Jackhammer will too!
Well shit bdm, you have to take them off first. :D

My last one's were stuck too but that's what I did. They popped right out. I should have taken them out before I even put them on the bike.

I like the big city thunder baffles but, there's something about me that likes that no baffle sound that sounds like that 18 wheeler slowing too. ( I'm just too stingy to give up those horses )

I'm taking them out to cut them down. From everything I've read on the site the other ones BCT loose power. I don't want to loose power but I want better sound.

I had the popping on decel which sounds like it's because of my loose bolts at the head.
Is everyone really using a torque wrench to tighten them? The bolt closest to the seat I had to take off with a open end wrench because there is no room

also do I put anything on the threads?

thanks

What is the right way to install and remove a exhaust gasket?

They look different from any gasket I've ever seen. Thin like cloth?

If you have a exhaust leak would you be getting some black around the area like a on a car?

I pulled mine out when I only had around a few hundred miles on the bike. The top one came right out...and the bottom one I sprayed WD-40 around it...then took a real small flathead....and gently went around the pipe between the baffle and pipe and it popped right out. I cut mine down to around 4 and 3/4 inches. In the gallery...scroll down to members video...I have a couple of small vid's of my bike running with the cut down baffles.
just take your time...it will come out....I like the sound alot better and only get some decel pop:2thumbs:

thanks for the help

I had to use a lot of WD40 and I ended up having to pound the baffle in a little to break it loose. I tried a coat hanger, tools with a hook and vice grips. After I beat it in a little I used the hole and a punch to move it back out so I could get enough to get vice grips on it. It still didn't come out easy

I got everything back together tonight and went for a ride.
Bike is a little louder but thats it. I cut the baffles exactly in half.

Almost all of my decel popping is gone. Also the swoosh noise some of you guys mentioned is much less when letting off the gas

What is the proper torque spec for the V&H pipes and what kind of torque wrench are you guys using to read 60-80 inch pounds?

I had the same problem on the bottom pipe. I did what Gas mentioned above and it finally came out. The only difference was, I got a longer allen head bolt, so I had more to grap onto with a vise grip.

So does anyone know what the V&H BR pipes are supposed to be torqued to?

Also what kind of torque wrench is everyone using for these low torque settings like 80 inch pounds?

I used a slide hammer on mine. Took a piece of round rod and formed a hook, attach it to the slide hammer, a couple taps and out they come. Cut them in half, put 'em back in and now it sounds SWEEET !!!:whoop: No decel pop either.

My buddy just put on the big radius on his K9 with no baffles. They sound great and I didn't notice any loss of power. Thinking about pulling mine out.
