ok guys, i'm totally new to this forum... so i expect a little hazing for the rookie...

i just picked up a 2003 Pitbull with 1100 miles on it... perfectly mint everywhere... this is my first time on a rigid... while i'm expecting the ride to be more unpleasant on my rear and back, what i'm experiencing is ridiculous...

i'm pretty sure it's not road vibrations because i've been on smooth and bumpy roads and its the same thing, a bad vibration anything over 40mph... almost to the point where your head is jolting so bad, your eyes can't focus on the road in front of you... decelleration seem to make it worse, but accellerations aren't much better... i can only ride for a few minutes before i'm ready to puke...

hard to tell if it is a front end problem or a problem with my rear wheel/tire...

ps... i'm not a pus*y... i'm just wonderin wassup with this thing...

Welcome to Bigdogbiker. :flag:

You didn't mention what kind of vibration you are experiencing. I would check the motor mounts first. My top motor mount comes loose and the bike vibrates like hell.
The other would be tires out of round. 1100 miles ain't nothing on the tires so they should be in good shape except for balance. Also, what air pressure are you running in the rear tire? I wouldn't run it to low.
I would guess you motor mount is loose though.

Have to concru with Raywood on this, most likely motor mounts. Get a good torque wrench, the proper hex socket wrenchs, some red and blue loctite and check the mounts.

Get in to the habit of checking all the bolts routinely for the little things and in my case, I put the torque wrench to the the top motor mount and other everytime I change the oil.

Good luck and let us know what you find out.

tire pressure is right where it's supposed to be at 42 in rear and 40 up front... i thought maybe it was too much pressure in the rear so i dropped it down to 38, but that didn't help, so i put it back up to 42...

i'm gonna check on that upper motor mount... looking at the bike, there is a huge nut and bolt that braces to the motor on top and to the frame underneath the gas tank... is this my upper motor mount? trying not to look like too much of an idiot here, but alas, when it comes to this kinda stuff... i'll take any advice i can...

i'm guessing it doesnt throw me around at lower speeds because the bike is more stable and it's not til it's picking up speed that it can force the engine to vibrate loose?

thanks for your help... i don't do much motorcycle maintenance, but i'm gonna try this one myself? how tight should it be, torquewise?

any other hints, for those who have done this before is greatly appreciated...

ps... i'm central new jersey... any other big doggers around here?
