Bad noise; Need help

Just came home for R&R and was looking forward to getting on the Ridgeback to burn up the roads. Coming home from Nashville, started hearing a bad noise that sounds like it's coming from the primary. When you slow down, you hear the rattle clank noise like a loose chain or something. First time its ever made the noise. Please help so I can get back on the road before I have to go back. Can you give a little more like does it do it in all gears. Sure its not comming from the tranny?

You need to open the cover on the primary to see if the chain loose is all it sounds like, adjust according to the how to's and you should be good. And you need to do it soon R&R comes slow and goes fast.:flag:

mine was doing the same thing and tightened the primary chain and it took care of it...

while you are in there, check the clutch hub nut.

Well when i first got my bike, i had the clanking noise and so i took the cover off, found the clutch nut loose, the prime drive pulley nut loose and so took it all off the clean the treads and the stator rotor teeth had worn cause of the prime pulley being loose. just take it all apart and check from one end to the other...not that hard....

My money is on the clutch basket. They break and my 05 ridgeback broke one at 4800 miles.

If all you're going to do is tighten the chain, do you still have to remove the primary or just the inspection plate?

if you are going to do it properly, brad, you need to go inside to verify the slack in the chain. the inspection cover isn't big enough to actually do the measuring for the tension. you can get to the nut that holds the shoe in place but that's about all.

You sure it was from the primary.... I had a rattle sound, and it was the fork cap being loose. Sounded like a bad rattle in the motor.

I'm already back in Iraq but at least I got to enjoy riding my Harley. It's not half as fun as my Ridge but at least I was getting to ride.

Red, this is Les Patterson from Clarksville, it started making that noise when I got home that day but ran out of time to get it back. As soon as I redeploy back home, I will make an appointment at your shop to have you guys look at it. I hope to get it fixed very quickly so I can make up for loss time before winter arrives.

I want to thank R&B Cycles for always taking good care of me and my Big Dog. They have the best customer service and thier service department is the best around. I highly recommend if anyone is having trouble with thier Big Dog and are not mechanics, like myself, take it to them and they will have you riding in no time.

Also, I bought a pair of Hooker Troublemakers from R&B Cycles for my 08 Ridge but changed my mind on putting them on. I decided to keep my V&H 2 in 1 and plan on changing out the baffle to a Thunder Monster Baffle when I get back home. If anyone is interested in the exhaust, let me know and I will get with Red to have them shipped to you.

They look like the V&H 2 in 2 exhaust but with a deeper note. You will have to make another bracket to make them fit your o8 Ridge with the 330. That's what I have and they wouldn't fit. The reason I'm not installing them on mine is I really like the way my 2 in 1 looks but I just want it louder so that's why I'm going with the Thunder Monster Baffle.

You can go on Youtube and watch a video with an 08 Ridge with Hooker Troublemakers and it sounds awesome. I bought them from R&B Cycles while I was deployed before I came home on R&R and just changed my mind. They are still located at R&B Cycles in Nashville. I bought them for $350. Shoot me an offer if your interested.

If you need someone to take a look at your bike or help you work on it let me know and I will do it.....
We can break them out and take them for a spin and have a cold one then.
