I called my dealer today to see about my bike and he told me that I also needed a regulator for it and Big Dog has them on back order and it could be a month before he gets one in. Woundn't I have been having a charging problem if my regulator was bad.I took it in because it kept dieng and the horn would blow and flashers would start flashing i didn't think a regulator would do that.Any suggestions.

No way man, ITS YOUR BATTERY. Trust me I went through the same exact thing on my 06 K9. They screwed with it for weeks before the head tech at BD told the dealer to get a High CCA battery "430". They got one from Harley down the street, that was three years ago, and I haven't had a problem since. The bike was draining the battery just enough on start up that the ECH would keep rebooting which was causing the same symptoms you have. f you have the 270CCA battery get the high CCA battery and drop it in I bet it solves the problem.
In your case, based on you saying the bike just dies it sounds more like a dying battery.
Of course have them test the battery but I bet thats the real problem.

if the horn is bowing & flashers are flashing I think that is a sign of low batt... the low bat could be from not charging.. check the stator for charging .. there are threads here for that remove VR plug & start is should be 20 to 40 vac.. the vr changes it to apros 13-13.8 vdc you should load check the batt also to see if it has aproblem also..

Just put a new battery on it a Harley Davidson 330 on it and had it tested it good. It starts good and runs good you will be going down the road and it just dies and starts flashing and the horn beeps. I don't know what that has to do with the regulator.I checked it before running and after and it was 13 something and after load testing it did't drop and they told me that my battery was good.It was higher while running thats why i didn't think that my regulator was bad. What regulator does it take.P.S. I keep it on a tender all the time. And I know the battery is good.

Thats why I took it in to the shop is to try and find the short. And they told a friend of mine today that it needed a regulator. Go figure. And like I said they said they are on back order . What if any other regulator will fit.

I'd wanta know why thay think the VR is bad if its charging.. you should still check the stator output.. & then VR output.. make sure you breaker isnt triped.. this will cause the bat not to charge.. not sure of what exact model Hd fits,, ask gas he will know or talk to a good HD dealer parts guy thay will know what # will work.. I wouldnt change it till I knew that was the prob.. or you be just swaping parts.... wasting $$.. contact steve @ bikers dream,, he will know what vr to use if that what you need .. he can help trouble shoot to...

Okay, little more info definitely helps.
My buddy has an 03 chopper that used to do that to him, minus the flashing. I eventually found a loose wire under the tank so I suppose if the VR is defective and is getting ready to die it may be cutting the voltage to much intermittently which leads to the symptoms your having.

What a bummer, i had power form the bat to key switch to the brain, tail light, but no power to the starter button, head lighs, horn, blinkers, i went threw the systom with much help from the Big Dog sight, they keep telling me to change the bat, even though fully charged, anyway after all the disapointments i chanded the bat and it fired wright up, and no more problems. I'm still down too T. Got new battery(braille), had starter tested and had a friend go through it and check brushes and armature. Checked connections. Thinking about setting it on fire and going and buying another one
