bad chrome job

While cleaning the chrome rear spoke wheel of my 08' Mutt, I noticed several quarter sized areas of rough black substance. I scrubbed this, thinking it was tar. To my surprise, flakes of chrome were left on my cleaning cloth. Upon further inspection, these areas appeared to be bare metal where the chrome was literally flaking off. I instantly contacted the dealer and was told chrome only has a 90 day warranty. I had owned this bike for 5 months. Bitching got me nowhere.

Fast forward three months. I recently discovered the dealer was wrong and that these wheels have a 180 day warranty. No claim was made within the 180 days and I am now past the chrome warranty. BDM is not being cooperative. Any advise?

see if the dealer has your complaint in writing in your file. if so and it is dated, bdm would have to honor the claim. BUT BE NICE. you can win more friends with honey than with vinegar.

agreed...the chrome warranty is supposed to be six months (as well as paint)...call bdm customer service directly, be as nice and polite as possible, and perhaps they will be willing to help you. It may also be helpful to re-visit the dealer. Will the person who mis-informed you own up to the mistake? If so, and they are willing and they call bdm on your behalf it could make all the difference.
