Bad Brake rebuild

If you've ever wondered what happens when a caliper rebuild goes bad -- here it is.
Brake_Piston.jpg
Brake was a little soft when I put it on the bike (piston were all moving when I did the rebuild) but I thought that was the surface of the rotor that needed to be roughed up.
Well go out last time and I've got no rear brake 5 miles down the road.
Ok been here done this before -- Head for home and when we stopped at the walgreens I'm pumping the brakes to see what's going on and I see a puddle of fluid -- ok, maybe a o-ring didn't seat right, maybe not enough torque.
So I check the torque today and it was close maybe off by a pound -- still leaking - I take it off and discover the above!
New pistons are already on their way. FYI - J&P Cycles stocks them -- and they were on sale!

Will rebuild and test more in a few days when parts arrive.

I'm curious as to where ur pad went and how the piston got scared up that way if a pad was properly set in aligning slots??

the pad was there with a HOLE the size of the piston burnt threw it -- that's pad inside the piston in the picture.
Pad was pushed cock-eyed; ie one piston only the others locked up.brake_pads.jpg

Ah, you need to put brake pads in between the calipers.... :oldbang:

It probably scarred the rotor and if there is still enough thickness in it then you don't have to replace it. When I got my Pitbull the disks were wavy and I had then ground down by True Disk LLC. They did a good job and it is only $45 a disk. Turn around was real fast too.
