Techs.... what, why, how this happen???
Could it have been prevented???

yep, definitely, been drained and flushed 2x.
I think it is just one of those things...just a single lifter that has failed. If I had turned it off straight away and not turned it on again then there may have been less damage to the cam lobes but its hard to justify just stripping an engine to look for something because you "heard" a noise....had to start it up and run it again to see what we could hear....
All good though, I said to the miss's that she is getting a Cam and Lifters for Christmas!.....then asked what she was getting me ....lucky I didn't get a blackeye for Christmas haha

Please tell us you split the case and looked for metal! When I bought my 1996 Ultra back in 2010, the guy said the engine was blown. When I did the tear down all that happened was the Torrington cam bearing let loose and disentigrated, causing the cam to fall and dropping the lifters and push rods. I tore the motor apart, split the case and 75% of the needle bearings and the outer bearing race was on the crank side. Also there were bearing parts stuck in the gears of the oil pump. That's why I had to change the oil pump and went with a high psi pump. Be sure to remove your oil pump and flush all your oil journals out then use high psi air to blow them out! You would be supprise how much metal shavings and metal debris will get lodged in there!

That's what it says on the S&S website. I always wondered if that was just being overly conservative or not. Would love to know how many miles on the motor too...

I wish I had more money.
I was up at the shop recently and they were doing a top end for this very reason. It had like 22,000 on the odometer. I'll be replacing mine this winter.
