Backfire

My wolf gets pissed off when I try to start it by twistin the throttle three times and hittin the start switch,it lets me and the neighbors know it by a backfire , when I use the enritcher it starts w/o backfire,I have the battery on a tender but I think its pretty much shot,I don't get many turns on it b4 it gets real weak. Would a weak battery cause the backfire due to the lack of balls to start it on one or two shots w/out the enricher on??? I also read a post on this site where another wolf owner had said something about his book stated that there was an automatic comp.release,I don't have the book and no one else ever told me about it,dose anyone know anything that can help me out ?? thanks, LARS.

Well lets look at it like this when you send all the volts to the starter it drops the correct volts to the ignition .bdm calls for 12.8 volts.By sending less volts to the ignition it changes timing then bang.You know i have had this happen to me cold-hot what ever ! nature of the beast.Make sure you have a good battery then go from there.:flag: 05chop

Thats what I was thinkin, thats prob.the solution,I shoud go out and get a new battery,than of course have a cold one

So what is the batt voltage sitting at, not on the tender?

Ya know Gas,I haven't even checked, it just did it the the last two times I tried it, it's been pretty cold here so I only get to start the bike like once a week(it's at my buddies house ,in his garage)I kinda think it is the batt.if I left it off the tender I'm pretty sure it would not crank,but I was just wondering if that would cause it to backfire. Thanks

its not a good idea to keep starting it.

you keep building up condensation in the componants and that leads to corrosion and rust.

Hey Gas, how do you suggest I store it , I need my fix on hearing it once a week but if it's going to hurt the bike I guess I can get buy.

Its all a matter of opinion. But stabil in the tank, battery on the tender (in or out, don't matter when on the tender), complete service, wash and cover. Then I tend to cut that oil changes milage in half due to sitting all winter. Now whether or not this needs to be done with synthetic oils or not... I'm not sure.

hey Lars....next time you fire you bike up......record it on camera with sound....then when you need a fix....you can watch and hear it...

even with syn oil the engine is still not running hot or hard enough to remove water build up from combustion thats what the top engine breathers are doing, going down the road
i still put atf, dextron 3 in the cyls before lay-up!!

hey Lars....next time you fire you bike up......record it on camera with sound....then when you need a fix....you can watch and hear it...

As far as storing for the winter..... All I Have done for the last 15 years with my Classic Cars, Bikes, and even my lawnmower is fill the tanks and install a battery tender. Never had an issue.. The fact that the Garage never dips below 45-50f don't hurt either "no chance for that spring condensation" :2thumbs: :2thumbs: John

Nope,most days low to mid 30's unless it really decides to dip to mid 20's,hopefully the end of Feb. will start the upward move,I heard for Mon.3/3 should touch close to 50,but you can't trust a weatherman.Later LARS
