Backfire

Went to get on my big dog today and didn't make it out of the drive before it started spuddering and popping. Backfired and turned off. It would start back up and idle fine. But everytime i would give it gas it would start popping and backfire and shut off. Fuel filter??? Any Help

Went to take my big dog for a ride today and didn't get out of the driveway before it started popping and backfired and turned off. It would crank and idle fine. But when you roll on the throttle, it would pop and backfire and turn off. Any ideas?????

I didn't have anything done. It had been running fine. I might of ran it low on fuel the other day.

is this bike carbed,if so you may of picked up dirt from the bottom of the tank,i would pull the bowl and clean the jets with compressed air

check and clean/replace plugs, mine started doing that and the plugs were bad:2thumbs:

This is a 2005 mastiff with the super E carb. I did run it a little lower than i should have. Possibly trash in the fuel filter??? Is the filter in the pet-cock valve???

it is a screen around the petcock inside the tank,shine a flashlight in the tank and see if you have crude on the bottom

Like Mobsta said, there should be a screen there, if for some reason it came off and is just rolling around in your tank then yeah you might have picked up a little trash but more than likely i would think it would be the plugs.

Not saying that this is what happened. But a guy I work with had the same problem after re fueling his bike. Ran good on the way to work but wouldn’t run right when he took off for lunch. Come to find out he mistakenly filled with diesel fuel. Dooooh!

Sounds to me like you got trash in your jets.

Yep. Dropped the petcock and had trash all around the screen. AND changed the plugs. Surly i had it fixed.......nope. Still doing same thing. Now it sounds like trash in the jets....lol:lol:

like i said if you got trash in the tank i would clean the jets,very easy task

i had a similar problem, did all the above and to find out it was my gas cap, wasnt allowing my tank to breath it was vapor locking.new cap no problems

Yup! This happens quite often too.

hm gas cap vent,mine would run awhile before that would happen but anything can happen,just seems that it all started when he ran low on fuel,work through it and keep us posted
