Backfire & Headlight issues

I have a 2008 Pitbull with approximately 3500 mi. Upon start-up, it frequently backfires (causing any bystanders to duck for cover). Is this a timing issue?

My other problem is that I am unable to engage my low beam headlight. It is forever on high beam. When pushing the low beam button, the light flickers but remains on high beam. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! Thanks..

The backfire is probably due to the jet sizes in the carb. Look at the how-to's on carb tuning or just do a search on it.

Your headlight bulb itself cound be bad but it almost sounds like the switch is not functioning properly. I would try a new bulb first. If that does not fix it you may need a new pcb board unless you are good with fixing electrical stuff.

Also if you are new to the board do an intro in the introductions area.

Low beam might be burned out. Don't give it any gas when trying to start. You got to much in and if you have to a real fast partial twist. Just my thoughts I'm sure someone else might no more. Good luck

If the low beam is burned out will default to high beam, as Wyatt said change tha bub, Bub. :D

Look at the headlight and see if the LOW beam actually lights up or if the HI beam goes off for an instant and comes back on. If the LOW beam lights then it may be a bulb socket connection or an electronics issue. If the LOW beam never lights then it could be a LOW beam filiment burnt out or bad socket.

The EHC is designed to monitor the LOW beam current draw and if insufficient current is detected then the EHC switches to HI beam in case the LOW beam goes out while riding.

Regarding the backfiring....

Is the bike stock? Is it fuel injected or carb?

FIRST....don't twist the throttle when starting until it begins to spin over on starter.

If bike is carbed and the exhaust is an aftermarket and intake filter system is aftermarket then jetting may be in order.

I had my low beam go out and when I tried to start the bike I got the 4 ways. It would not turn over. Took the bulb out and tested it and it was good. Put it back together and it worked. Bike started right up. That is why I am going with the wire plus.

My k9 backfires sometimes if I accidently hit the gas when getting on the bike kinda just part of having a carbed v twin in my opion. And the headlight problem is probaly a bulb always check easy stuff first.
