back tire rubbed wiring

Anyone have to repair the left rear wiring/cable being rubbed by back tire on an 2003 Mastiff. It has rubbed through the cable exposing the wire.
Back tire only rubs on the left side under the rear fender.

Another great design by BDM routing the cable under the fender. :job:

I was wondering if it was possible to fix without removing the back tire?

Suggestions for repairing the cable without having to replace the cable.
But there is very limited space between were the cable goes into the tail light and my back tire.

Thanks,

No, unfortunately taking the tire off is the best way to go. The adhesive that holds the wire tubing up in the fender probably gave so you might want to check it out.

Unless you want to take the easy not so good way out and get you some black duct tape and planting it up under your fender that way.

You can jack up the bike to get a little more space and disconnect the shocks if you need even more space. I hate taking the back wheel off my Mastiff because it is so difficult getting the axle back in place.

I know this problem all too well. Take your seat off, Loosen the 4 bolts holding your fender strut to the frame. Leave the 2 bolts closest the motor one on each side of bike in and remove the 2 bolts closest to the rear of the bike. Now gently swivel your fender upward. You can now tighten the two bolts a little to hold your fender in the up position. This should give you plenty of room to make your repairs. There is a modification available to correct this problem.

There is no need to remove your back tire on an '03 Mastiff! :job: There are 4 bolts on your fender strut. Remove the 2 that are towards the rear. Then loosen the 2 that are forward. Your entire fender will now swing up to you can access the underside. Now you have a couple of options to make repairs. I've heard that some have removed the struts and cut a groove in them to run the wire through like on the Pitbull. If you don't want to go to that much trouble, you can get a very small stainless tube just barely large enough for the tail light wire to fit inside. Run the SS tube down the fender in the same place where the wire was originally and use an adhesive/sealer to mount it to your fender. You'll need to remove all the shit that BDM used to run the tail light wire and make sure the SS tube fits snugly against the fender all the way from the front to the rear of the fender as close to the tail light as possible. This SS tube will protect your wire if the tire rubs against it.

I was able to pull the fender off my 04 Mastiff without having to remove the tire when I wanted to get it touch up painted from the passenger seat suction cups. I noticed a loose wire on mine when I did it. I just put a dab of expoxy over the wire to hold it up and away from my tire. Worked fine.:2thumbs:
