back fire/ignition module

02 pitbull here that is giving me some grief, along with mechanic who knows much more than me. Problems started when bike was parked and running then died, lost all spark. Through mechanic things that were changed as well for 1 issue or another as came across them were stator, coil, & thought he said relay for ignition module. Bike fired right up and seemed to be charging great.
Here is where things get weird...bike would idle great when cold but then back fire here and there after warmed up. It would only come from back cylinder and even with plug wires switched was the same one. Now did notice it also only back fired after the ignition module felt warm, and not cool to the touch. Looking if i am on the right track by just replacing this, or am I missing something here? :bang:

Do you have a photo of the plugs on the module? I have a spare here if you end up needing it. Do a search and you'll find couple how tos on tests to run. They will help you narrow it down.

Take some bigass plastic bag and fill it with ice. Slap the unit on top of the bigass bag, fold the rest of the bag over the unit. Start the bike. Does it miss now?

Rewind. Have the bag of ice ready. Heat up the unit. Make it backfire. Wrap the ice bag around it, see if it stops.

Dangle the unit out in the open air. As soon as you start the bike, slowly take off or it will pop sitting there. If it still backfires, put some throttle it in. Get the air moving on it.

Okay here is where we are and what I know now. . . when actually taking module out of bike and hold in my hand, cold or warm bike does not back fire in idle. Put the bike back together and went for a few mile ride in the nice 42 degree weather here and runs like a champ, no miss or back fire, but soon as stopped and let idle after anywhere from 10 seconds to 20 seconds the back fire would start again. I really think my problem is in the thunder heart ignition module but did not want to spend the money and then not be the problem. When looking at modules for sale only can find 2 different styles, and yet have to take mine off to verify what I have but see 1 that has more of the snowmobile trailer hook up and the other is like a tv cable cord. Again don't have a lot of knowledge on this part and just appreciate any input. Thanks

I want to see the plugs. Unplug that thing and get me some photos. Super easy to take off. Like I said I have one here I can send you to verify the issue. If that's the case then just shoot me check or whatever.

Will try to take off and get pics tomorrow to see if they are the same...put about 100 miles on today and no issues other than when letting idle...

No luck my friend. The one I have is different. One plug is a three pin. The other is a four pin. I'm with old dog at this point. If it gets to the point you won't ride it or can't ride it I would send it to Thunderheart to see if they can do a test on it. Sorry I was no more help than that.

FYI....Thunderheart will test your module for free and return it to you with the results of testing. Send them an email or phone and they will take care of you. Just my two cents.
