AWS Certified Welder is Georgia?

Energy One
Hey ya'll. I'm in need of an AWS certified welder that would be willing to give me an estimate on welding a back bone on a custom chopper. We are in Georgia so it needs to be someone close that can stop by the shop and take a look. see pics:

This is a custom frame, 1-1/4 tubing diameter, looks to be 1/8 thickness.

Looks like the top motor mount was not slotted. Clamped down the trans and engine to the frame and top motor mount was made to fit. 10 years + later..crack. down tube bent first about, 2 degrees down but over time it failed.

Where in Georgia ?
Man I would love a crack at welding that. That’s going to need a very precise Weld.
I have a trip coming up to Panama City fl very soon and wouldn’t charge you shit other than a good tig machine and a few days lodging.
Btw when you ask for aws certs you may want to specify process and certification. I am aws cerified in smaw for 1” steel plate vertical and overhead.
Good luck and if you don’t find anyone willing to take that project on by the end of August let me know , no doubt it’s a bad crack in a bad spot with allot of stress

Looks fixable If you can get a good argon purge inside the pipe, and get a good Tig weld around it, I don’t think you’ll have problems. Also, ya might want to drill a hole, say about 3/32 inch , at each end of the crack to help as a stress relief and help prevent further cracking. ( weld the holes up also ) .

I was considering adding some backing behind the crack ? Thoughts?
Just a reinforcement to the exterior weld ?

Fit it up with a backer bar, open up the crack to 1/8" with 45* bevel and fill it in. And if you felt so inclined, you could actually weld it up with SMAW process, using MG600 rod...incredibly strong, uses low heat, won't stress the base metal. Or as you suggested, TIG it up..:old2:

Call your local Airgas or other welding supply shop and ask for their recommendation. Any good Motorsport or Aircraft welder can help with this.

Where at in Ga are you? I am in St Marys. I know a welder here that works at Trident Refit Facility. I would imagine he is certified. If you want I can ask.
