OK so it has been one thing after another lately. I noticed a little wear starting on my Avon tire last week and after about a 100 mile run today this is what I came home with!!

Now being an ex truck driver I know the road slants to the outside for drainage and we usually get more wear on the left side of the tire because of this but this is just ridiculous!:bang: The rest of the tire including the center wear most of these big meats wear the most does not look bad at least no where near to what this looks like!

and yes I checked to see if something was rubbing on it but there is nothing there.................

that's what happened to my last avon rear tire also. kinda had a wide flat spot in the center and then started wearing left of center horribly while the rest of the tread was twice as good. I replaced with a metzeler and only have 3,000 miles on it so far, but so its doing good from what I can tell. i don't know if mine was an alignment issue or why the tire wore like that.

How many miles on the tire. Looks like it already had quite a few miles. It looks like the center is worn down to nearly bald. I've seen many different brands of tires do that once a tire is near the end of its life. I typically wear mine down to bald, but I have a friend who runs them down even farther and his have done this often.

Wow Craig that tire should have been replaced miles ago, you hardly have any tread left across the tire. How many miles are on it? My last Avon began wearing on the left side too, but it was relatively new with only a few thousand miles on it. I trashed it and got a set of Metzlers, like Okie I only have few miles on it so far but it is feeling and looking good. :2thumbs:

What mileage on thet rear.
I have just replaced the Metzlers after only 12 months, i now have Avon front and rear.
I have 1000 mle on them in 3 weeks and seem to be wearing well.

Disapointed with the Metzlers would be an understetement.

Give us more input on why you didn't like the Metzler:confused:

Ive got a brand new Metzler on the front and love it so far! Yeah I realize the tire is wore out but if you look close it still has good tread even in the middle of the tire even tho it has a flat spot now. The tire now has about 4,000 miles on it so not bad I guess just didn't need another expense at this time after fixing some other issues.

Thought about trying the Metzler on the back but heard they are a tad bit wider and cannot have that since I put the sissy bar on. Anything wider will take the chance of rubbing on the lock nuts.

Can someone measure their Avon 300 that's mounted on a wheel compared to a Metzler's 12.00 inches,(rechecked and had wife hold one side) put 2 straight edges on the sidewalls and measure between them. Just how much variation is there?

i got 11 7/8 using a straight edge and a framing square. and this equals 301.625 mm. apparently metzeler thinks an extra 10 mm (311.15) above their stated size is ok.

SORRY, I rechecked and mine's 12.00, 1/8"(3.18mm) isn't much but 1/16(1.59mm) per side or .060 is about what my Avon cleared the belt by. I wonder if we will get much more than that from others.

the point may be mute soon anyway if the information given on another thread is true that avon is going to quit making tires over 250mm. we'll have to run what we can get. might be time to go "dark side".

I have gotten 4 tires from them and a lot of buddies get tires from them for dogs and harleys... They have fast shipping and great pricing! imho

We need to start running low profile auto tires like they used to getting thousands of miles on them and see what Metzler, Avon and the rest of them thought of this maybe they would make a tire that last between 6 and 10 thousand miles.
