Avon or Metzler tires?

Hey,

I plan on replacing my front and rear tire soon on my 08 K-9. What is the latest scoop, which company?

Rear:
Avon Cobra 300/35VR-18 (87V) or
Metzler ME880 Marathon XXL 300/35 VR 18 M/C (87V) TL

Front:
Avon Cobra MH90-21 (56V)
Metzler ME880 Marathon MH90-21 M/C54HTL MH90-21 (56V)

Avon fix the Cobra tire issues? Does the Metzler rear tire rub the belt?

Thanks,

I'm running the 300 Metz on my Pitbull. No rubbing and no issues with the tire. Avon went to shit with their quality control. The last one I had didn't last 2500 miles before the tire wore out down the center line. Looked like I had been in a burnout contest.

No rub on my 08 K9 with the metezler. It's close about a 1/16th so should not rub if aligned properly. It also seems to have more rubber on the road than the Avon by looking at the center wear. The side of the metezler comes to a point from the molding that could easily be sanded off if you needed more clearance for piece of mind.

Sounds like most would go with the Metzler.

If you decide to go Avon, I have stock on the rear (born on date was mid 2012 but don't remember the exact date right now) and can get a front brought in for you.

This poor subject has been beat to death. If you want tires that will split and enjoy replacing them every two months buy Avon!

I am now running the Metz, on a 07/08 K-9 it rubs.
Lazer aligned.
Wheel turns freely.
No squeaks.
But still had to sand 2mm from the edge.....................no biggy.

Got 7000klm out of my Avon, rode the last 500 on canvas.

Avon management must be the biggest bunch of A-Hole Zombies alive ! May you rot in Hell. They were given every chance in the world to correct things. Have fun Avon tire co.

This is what you do to fix it. There is enough sidewall ridge rubber thickness to allow you grind it down to gain minimal belt clearance if the tire is aligned correctly.

just put the bike up on the jack, put it in gear, have your buddy give it some throttle, and hold the belt sander up to the tire. good enuf :2thumbs::2thumbs::roll::roll::roll:

Jimi...I have about 5000 miles on my Metzler rear tire and still looks like new. I was only getting 7500 miles out of the Avon's. On my font Metzler tire I've got a little over 4000 miles and it still looks new also. But I usually get at least 10,000 miles out of a front Avon.

The Avon tires I was getting 7500 miles out of were the Venom. Had three Cobra's and couldn't get a weekend of riding out of them before they started splitting.
