avon cobra?

Metzelers. That's all I've ever run, they STICK, and have saved my ass a few times.
I've had 4 sets of cobras, one front tire split.
Avon gave me the run around, referred me back to wholesaler, whom referred me to the big dog dealer and then they went out of business.
I'm back on Avons again because:
I was told the Metzler 300 will rub the sidewalls on a 08 K9 frame and would need to be shaved down on the side walls before use....??!!
Has anyone had this issue of the side wall rubbing on the frame??

Avon 330mm haven't had issues. It appears that a certain number will be produced, bought, and used within 5 years.

I have not heard about rubbing against the frame... but some had it rubbing against the belt....

Do Metzelers grip good in turns? Cause everyone is saying that they last longer than Avons...that means its a harder tire right? I love banking turns and the avon is gripping good....Ozark National Forest was good proving grounds for me man..Not try to start shit or steal the thread.. but no one has ever said anything about ie: Gripping,Tracking ect,ect, between the two tires...

The metzlers grip as good and maybe better. Probably the reason I can only get 5000 miles out of the Metzlers. I've had 2 Metzlers and both wore out at 5000 miles. I was getting 7500 miles out the the Avons until they changed over to the Cobra. I had 3 Cobras and all of them had the tread splice splitting within 1000 miles. I even went with the Metzler front tire and only got 6000 miles out of it. This go around I went back with a Avon on the front. Will see how it goes. The Metzler I have now on the rear is wore out (less than 5000 miles) and I may go back to the Avon's and see if they have fixed the tread splice issue. I like the Metzlers better but I can't seem to get any miles out of them. But if the Avon starts splitting again within 1000 miles I guess thats not any better. I ride the Ozarks a lot also, mainly back roads, maybe thats why I can't get any miles out of my tires.

Also I'm running a 300 rear tire and they seem to have most of the problems. The Metzler has a softer compound and thats the reason they wear faster and should grip better. The problem with the Avon is the tire splitting issue, The reason for not getting the same miles out of the Avon is not its wearing out, the tread splice starts splitting, not tread wear.

Thank for the input Al !!!! Thats the type of answers I need. My avon has the split to and so did the other one before that.. sounds like about the same mileage out of both.. But I gather its all in the way you ride and were your riding...

I'm still runnin the stock Avon Viper on my 03 Chopper, still got plenty of meat left.
I did put a new Cobra up front.... from Supercycle Super Store ...BUT the tire is 26 months old, got it last week.
CS sucks over there they won't replace it because it was mounted BEFORE the shop told me.

My rear 300 is still the original with a born date 2005..... still half way there.Its 10 yrs old, the only thing its good for is a planter
