I know these tires suck. I got barely 4000 out of my last one. However, I just bought one from Dennis Kirk for $176.95 shipped. Takes a little sting out of having to buy another.

Just ordered one. Hard to beat $176 got 6,000 out of the last one. I know a lot of problems out of the Cobras but at that price DAMN!!

As I have mentioned, I switched to Metzeler this time, so far the Metzeler is a fine ride, won't know about the life of the tire for a few months. I am curious how the Avon holds up for you since Avon refuses to acknowledge that the Cobra is having problems compared to the Venom. Please keep us updated and more importantly, keep Avon updated since they claim to have less than 1% customer dis-satisfaction.

Cobra vs. Venom Reliability

:flag: I have just mounted an Avon Cobra 300/35-18 on my K9 right before developing a problem with the clutch/tranny bearings. Ya`ll keep us aware of the problems and mileage to expect out of this tire while I work on fixing my K-9, O.K.? Thanks All. :2thumbs::choppersmiley: Roll Tide Roll !!! Tom Chop P.S. Damn with some of pics of sidewall cracks I hope there aren`t any catastrophic failures to report. That would really be f--ked-up!:damnit::cursin::zz2cents:

I don't need one yet, but for that price I ordered one. I almost ordered 2.

I haven't had any trouble with the Avons except for them wearing out fast.

Thanks for the heads up Jon.

I was looking for one also. The best I could find was $259.00. Shovelshot thanks for the great find I just ordered one. My scoot made it to 11,000 with the stock Venom on the back. I guess the life expectancy of the Cobra will be cut in half but nevertheless tremendous find. Thanks.:2thumbs:

I wonder how old they are?

Do tires have a mfg date-stamp on them?

Is there a "shelf-life", as with many 'high-use' rubber products, before "dry-rot" sets in?

Don't know, just asking...

Anybody use these 300's and if so, what was your experience with them?
METZELER - Catalogue - ME 880 Marathon XXL
Yes they have a date code, it's a 4 digit # 0411 is 4th week of 2011.

Shelve life is around 5-6yrs, if ya have a extra one just keep it out of the sun.

With 2500-6000 miles out of them most people will wear them out in a year or 2. Unless you get the nasty separation line, keep an eye on it and good luck.

I have a Metzler on mine but only have a 500 miles on it, I've noticed no handling differences, however I'm not a peg scraping type of rider.

That is a super price and one would wonder if it's because of a drop in sales or inventory cleanout.

For those that have ordered, what DOT date stamp are you receiving? I would be suspect if they are more than about six months old. If so, that is likely why the big sale....to get rid of known bad stock that is only getting older.
If you received a recent date stamp, please let us know so we can take advantage of the deal!

Looking forward to retirement
Summer of 2010, I went to the HD Shop to get the front tire on the BD Chopper. They put on a new Avon tire and I was satisfied. Last week I detailed the bike and when I armor alled the tires I noticed cracks in the side wall. I am maticulous about keeping proper air presure in my tires. I brought the bike the next day to my mechanic to let him measure the primary to order the correct spacer. While I was there I had him look at the tire. He then pointed out the problem. The HD shop installed a 2008 avon. That is a 2 yr old tire at the time of installation! NOT COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I confronted them and they said, " well had you brought that to our attention before you drove off we would have done something, but when you left we have no way in knowing if that is truly our tire."

I would tell that HD shop to kiss your ass. I would also tell them they just lost a customer
