Avon 300, you guessed it

When it comes to directional tires, including on my semi, I ALWAYS confirm the tire is mounted correctly. So I dont buy the story of mounting it backwards.

AVON TYRE QUESTION OF THE WEEK--Why do tires have a directional arrow on the sidewall?

The arrow indicates the direction in which the tire should be mounted on the wheel. When the tire is built the tread is joined with the tread overlapping in so that when the tire is mounted on the front wheel the braking forces acting on the tire keep the tread splice together and when it is on the rear wheel is it overlapped to work with the acceleration forces acting on the rear tire. See photo.

Here's a question for next week. WHY IS IT ONLY AVON TIRES COME APART?

Haha!! Yea maybe that is actually the better question!

Seems like they are trying to save face. Not a chance in hell the 50+ tire splices on this website were caused due to tire mounted backwards!

It's almost embarrassing that they think we are all that stupid.

question... On the Metz Ive heard you have to grind off the edge to that it clears the belt, even with the Avon, theres still only 1/4" between the edge and the belt, unless theres some special trick with the Metz....

I didnt have to grind my edge on the Avon. I had about 1/16th inch to the belt. The Metzler I had to grind. I have a Shinko now and ground a little off, but ended up adding a 1/8 inch spacer to move the pulley out.

The old Avon looks pretty "strong" I still have the original on my #1 choppa 03! Sure it was standing untill 2014 but I figured I ride it a bit before I change tires. It now has about 4000 miles and tires look like a new! I do check those every time I ride for cracks etc., nothing so far! They also seem to grip well enough for me. Yes I know, I should replace them, but I'm cheap and they seem to work just fine so far...
On my -08 K9 I have Metzeler, happy with those. It is a close call on rear, but didn't need to gring it any.

Any belt rubbing on the front pulley cover after moving it out .125"
I checked the front pulley after it was all back together by lying on the ground and looking along the bottom section of the belt. Checked the edge of the belt, all looks fine.

All tires are made this way. Could be that Avon is not letting the rubber bake long enough in the molds or at a high enough temp / pressure. Cheap processing results in this.

I had the Avon split issue years back. Switched to a Metzler and had a fucking blow out!
I'm back to Avon on the rear. I did have to grind the Metzler to fit.

Tire only had 3k miles when it blew! Think I inured the inside the fall before. I hit a pothole and cracked the frame.
