Are you good? I'm not. Starter versus electrical

When I first started the bike today it did turn over, seemingly slow however. It ran for a few seconds and died – not too uncommon for a cold day. The bike had just come off the charger so I know it had juice; Plenty of gas in the tank too. The next time I tried to start it, it turned even slower. Even with the compression releases I have had this happen a few times before when the bike is warm, but not cold. I wait a few seconds and try again. This time I can hear the starter trying to engage but not turning over at all. When I turn the key off, I can still hear the starter trying to engage for a second or two and the sound fades. After this, when I push start the starter attempts to engage once, then the tachometer does a startup sweep and resets. Any assistance would be of invaluable usefulness.

If it happened to me, I'd first test battery voltage unloaded then loaded. If all looks good, I'd disconnect everything from positive terminal except the starter wire (big one) and use a small jumper wire to activate the starter solenoid. If that cranks it over good, then I'd start looking at the EHC/WP/whatever you may have for a control unit. If it does the same or nothing at all and the battery voltage doesn't take a dive when you're testing I'd start pulling apart the starter. Sure sounds like a bad battery though...

It was the battery. Only a year old and spent all winter on the tender.... At least it was an easy fix. Thank you.

Glad it was an easy fix! Same happened to me last season, seems either battery quality sucks these days or our bikes just like to eat them.
