Are the shocks on 09 Mastiff adjustable?

Part of the sales pitch I was given is that the 09 Mastiff had adjustable shocks (and adjustable ride height)

At my 500 mile service I asked to have the shocks made a little softer.

Next day when I picked it up, he said, sorry, shocks on it aren't adjustable (but I guess ride height is).

I saw in the 08 Big Dog Mastiff specs that the 08 shocks say adjustable.

At the point I bought the 09, there was no 09 literature available yet (I got Mastiff #13 of 2009).

So, anyone think it should have adjustable shocks on it? (i.e. should I squawk at the dealer since he told me it did as a selling point before I bought it?)
p.s. He also told me it would get 45 mpg. I really didn't swallow that (and I appear to be getting mid 30's usually)

I have some ocean front property for sale here in Vegas. :roll: Height has always been the only adjustment stock. Most go to air ride if you want a cushier ride.

"Adjustable" yes in hight only - this has always been the case. As Vegas put it if you want more add the "air ride". I have never felt the need for that but here you have it - some who have done it and :2thumbs: :2thumbs:

If that was one of the points of sale. He told you outright that it had adjustable shocls then damn right you squawk. If he really didn't know he should have at least checked.

Can you show me a softail style shock that can be adjusted for firmness? No such thing that I know of unless it's air-valved or has the side mount cartridge on it which won't fit our bikes. If you want your shocks set up specifically for you then pull them off and send them back to Works Shocks and they can re-valve them to your requirements for about $125.

I think it's between you and your salesman to determine what each other were talking about IRT adjustablility. Yes they are adjustable (except 05's) so I don't think he was lying to you. But if you specifically asked him if the firmness setting was adjustable and he said yes then you can call him on it.

I think the point of what I was asking was not clear enough.

I am a little pissed that the salesman lied to me. He had to know better since they do service on them. I really like the dealership, and highly recommend them. But the situation just rubbed me the wrong way.

He specifically told me before I bought the bike that the ride height was adjustable by putting the shocks in different mounting holes. The firmness was adjustable in the shocks. I didn't ask how (I have had kono shocks that were adjustable, so I didn't even ask how).

I don't want air shocks, and I have since gotten used to the ride.

I apparently wanted to vent a little in the thread. Shit, why doesn't a $30k MC have adjustable shocks?

And I would probably buy another Big Dog. I really like the brand.

Understandable I guess but at the same time I would ask you why do you need adjustable shocks or how/when would you adjust them or why? Day to day, Ride requirements or just once in a blue moon when you loaded the bike up for a long trip?

Not being funny but I for one don't see a need for them just like my car doesn't have them my truck doesn't have them and my bike doesn't have them.

If your salesman told you your new bike had them then go confront him and have him give you a good deal on a pair of new exhaust pipes. But don't think that a salesman has any mechanical knowledge like the service people do. He's only trying to get you to part with your money, the service people will work on your bike for $75 an hour and may know a little bit about your bike depending on how long they have been working on them.

So your best bet is to use this forum as your knowledge base prior to any issues you may have as there are very experienced people on here including some from the factory and ex-employees.
