Are Big Dog Bikes eventually becoming obsolete?

I own a 2006 Big Dog K9 and love my bike but every time i tell someone that i own a Big Dog bike, i am told to get rid of it because there are no parts available for these bikes. I have always thought that bikes are like automobiles that can be modified with after market parts and any part can be replaced with other similar parts? I believe that perhaps the people that offer me this advice think that because the manufacturer went out of business, Bid Dog owners like myself are left with no options but to sell our bikes. Has anyone else encountered such negativity about these awesome bikes?

That's what i am talking about Brew, this individual i spoke to has been an owner of a local motorcycle shop for many years but he mostly caters to japanese bikes. When i told him that all parts on our Big Dog bikes are still available, he rebutted by saying that eventually parts would run out. I honestly don't give a rats a$$ what he has to say and i will never get rid of my K9. I really hope that these bikes do continue being manufactured for a long time.

what a great day when the new big dog was unveiled and finaly announced to the public I think all us big dog owners had heard the rumors and new it was on the way .sure made me smile from ear to ear . and I guess some parts have gotten scarce but the support you get from rip and all the people involved with the big dog has been great . even down to the people on this forum have all been very helpful and all to kind.i myself have been a biker for 35 years and have joined several biker sites on the internet and with most sites you are treated as just another biker but here on the big dog forum its totally different you are treated like family not just another biker .so people can say what they want ,I am a proud big dog owner and the people at big dog have worked really hard to bring back an awesome bike even in this bad economy .so I give them a big ole hell yes and a big thank you for giving us the opportunity to purchase a brand new big dog , hopefully one day as things progress they can add the pit bull back into the new list of bikes . I have learned that most of the ones that have negative things o say about big dog have never even owned one . RON WHITLEY worlds proudest big dog owner...............

One of the old ones.
Hey superglue...another point is that the engine is S&S, transmission is Baker, and so on. Parts for the entire power train of these bikes is available any day of the week from established companies that are doing just fine.
Tell you what...next time he starts with that crap. Ask him what specific parts does he mean? Get an example....our EHC's are replaceable, entire power train is supported, etc.
You'll find he is blowing air, just like the schmucks who walk up, look at the K9 and say " Cool bike but you can't ride it very far!" Always ask...'Ever ridden one?' Of course they haven't.
Dumbasses are so narrow-minded they could look thru a keyhole with both eyes.....

I don't intend on getting rid of mine anytime soon and when I do it will not be due to a parts shortage. In fact I am looking to purchase another Big Dog.

Well eventually my days on this earth will run out, do I spend any time worrying about it? Hell no! Enjoy your bike! Heck, our bikes may well all outlive us all, at least we take better care of them as our selves!

Even if all the Big Dog specific parts ran out, theres enough inventive guys with these bikes to make or modify just about anything. In the end its still a frame, enigine, trans, and a bunch of components. Not worried here, although I love a challenge!!!

True true, i can relate to that.....i've had people tell me that it's an awesome bike but it wouldn't be comfortable riding it long distances and say that my chopper is more of a bar hopper.......and all i have to say to these ignorant people is "go fuck yourself." They will never have a clue how comfortable it is to ride a BD K9 unless they can afford to own one.
