I had mine off several times last year.
Disconnect Negative Battery terminal.
Remove exhaust pipes. I have V&H big radius.
Remove electrical side covers.
Loosen clutch cable adjustment of frame downtube.
Remove clutch adjustment cover.
Remove clutch rod and then remove entire clutch cover from trans.
Loosen rear wheel and slip belt off pulley if necessary.
Remove small green wire from solenoid and then large cable from battery to solenoid.
Remove 2 allen head bolts from starter and remove from right side of bike, the negative cable attaches to the upper bolt. That should do it. Good luck

Is the k9 that much different than the ridgeback? I have an 06 ridgeback and all I have to do is;
Disconnect Battery
Remove electrical covers
Remove passenger peg bar( if equipped)
Remove wires on starter
loosen 2 allen bolts and take negative cable off
pull out slightly, rotate and pull it out.
I didnt need to touch exhaust( vance n hines), clutch cables, rear wheel etc

I´ve got an 06 K9 also and I did not have to do all that...

Only Exhaust & Battery Covers. It comes out (and goes back in) without removing clutch pushrod cover, etc. and definitely no need to lose up rear wheel/belt!!!

Going great!!

I work out of town - so don't get on the forum as often as would like to.

Want to thank everyone for the threads received - have been most helpful! If not needed now - will surely be valuable in the future.

As it turned out I didn't need to pull my starter/starter solenoid out of my 06 - K-9. One connection (starter cable) was just a big loose - (& I mean just a bit) I snugged it up (less then a quarter turn - actually I noticed it was just a big loose - so I took off - cleaned up & put back on) & decided to give it a try before removing - & to my amazement-fired right up. Haven't had a problem sense although we are still in the trial period till my confidence comes back. I know connections are crucial, but seems to be on a whole different level with the BD!

My guess is the starter has never been out of this machine before. It only had a little over 3000 miles on it when I bought it.

Happy riding...
