Anyone running a Yaffe Phantom LSD pipe?

I really like the look of the LSD pipe, I don't like the RSD pipe. I'm going to need an RSD pipe, esp since I'm going to extend the bearing support/actuator on my tranny. What I plan on doing is getting a phantom LSD, and cutting it under one of the heat shields, rotating it outboard to clear the tranny, and rewelding. I'd like detailed pics of the pipe mounted on the bike. Anyone got some?

Moe, I can call my buddy Mike and see if he can take some pics for ya. He runs a Yaffe Phantom on his 2004 BDM Chopper.

I don't even think he has a computer right now but maybe he can get them to me somehow. I would drive over to the bike and take some but he is in Palm Springs (long way).

Here's a pic of him and his bike in Sturgis but I only have a left side view.

That's a chopper eh? He put a fatter rear and chain conversion on there? Looks cool! Yes, I need pictures from above, looking down on the pipe. I need to know where it goes from 2 into one, so I can see if I can rotate it before it hits the outer bearing support on my transmission.

These are the pipes I'm talking about:

OK, I'll call him and see what I can do.

No I don't think he put a fatter tire on (still 250). The motor is a 124 with lots of speed work. Chain is for the extra ponies.

I have those in the picture. Paul Yaffe Phantoms. Mine are the brushed silver style. The shields are held on via small 1/4" wide metal straps. Similiar to a metal banding strap on lumber.

So they will fit right side drive? What kind of clearance do you have at the front of the belt guard? I would love to see pics, thanks!

Moe, I called Mike but he is currently tied up in some personal issues so I'm not sure he will get the pics. He can't even find the cable to tranfer the pics from his phone/camera to a computer.

I am confused because if you are just needing to build out the lower tranny mount to get the Phantoms out for clearance, why is that a problem when your only need is to go from a 300 to a 330. Or if you want to keep it closer and cut it under the heat shield and re-position it for clearance then no problem.

Here is RMBrownlee's phantoms (which are exactly like the ones I got from Alicat) for my K-9.

Shovel look at the pipe in the pic you posted, then look at the 2 pipes in the picture I posted. They are different pipes. I want the style that I posted, but they are listed as LSD. What I've got is a monster sprocket on the right (1.5" offset) and an outer bearing support for the tranny mainshaft which needs to be spaced out, then the hydraulic actuator hanging off of that! With the LSD pipe, I should be able to make it work as long as the pipe goes 2 into 1 forward of the tranny. You can only space a pipe out so far before you lose square contact up at the engine heads.

I don't know if it helps at all but I think those pipes are practically the same.

The pic shovelcowboy put up is my bike with the Yaffe Phantom Pipe - "#PP-RSD-B - Phantom Pipes Right Side Drive '04-06 - Black"

The pics of the 2 pipes you put up from Yaffe's website are of - "#PP-B - Phantom Pipes - Black - FXST/FLST '86-06"

I know they aren't listed as RSD but the pipes in the picture are actually the RSD model. It is a bit confusing between their photo and the description though.

I've seen them on another RSD BD and it looked good. The Phantom FXST/FLST is almost exactly the same but just a little longer than mine. The end of the pipe is turned up more instead of exhausting out to the right like mine. I don't know if I'd bet $1000 based on photos though. Maybe call the sales/customer service guy listed on their website (Jarod: 602.840.4205 x221, sales@paulyaffeoriginals.com) and ask if the clearance between the two models are the same? I've seen it side-by-side with my bike and they look like they come from the same mold. If they say yes I'll try to get more detailed photos and measurements off of my bike. I can tell you there is enough clearance between the pipes and the cam cover & tranny to put my hand in there.

Moe, Understand what you are trying to get accomplished - it’s going to be a challenge.
A quick heads up - one point you do need to keep in mind the heat shields on these do not use your standard hose clips. The fastening clips as well as the loop holes on the heat shields are much thinner about 1/8th to a ¼” (can’t really remember – getting old) and they crimp on only. From what I was told that they use a “special” pneumatic/hydraulic tool to get them fastened. So with all the mods you plan to on the pipe you may have to weld on larger loops in the heat shields if you plan to use standard hose clips – which means off to chrome (translates to tons of wait time and monies – ouch) Unless you can find real thin hose clips.
From a pricing perspective – EXPENSIVE, then again could be priceless when it’s all said and done - good luck.

Staffy I used regular hose clamps on my heat shield when the clamps broke. No problems.

If that pipe I posted a pic of comes in RSD, I should be ok. I have a bagger pipe with the round head for mockup, I'll have to look at how they mounted the heat shields. Thanks guys!

Moe the pic that you posted is a LSD pipe the other pipes posted is a RSD pipe. The RSD sticks out a lot more then the LSD because of clearance, that is the reason they are designed differently.

That was the gist that I got. I may buy the LSD from Dennis Kirk, and if I can't make it work just return it. I need to have one in my hand to see if I can cut it up properly.
