Anyone Replace The Voltage Reg. Themselves?

Hi my battery is not charging and I do have good AC voltage coming off the alternator/stator. Fuse is good, and wiring looks OK so I am looking to replace the voltage regulator. Anyone do this themselves? I unbolted the regulator to have a look and there is no plug that connects the wires at the regulator so I am guessing the new regulator comes with the wires and I will have to re-run everything along the frame?

Yes, it just bolts on, and you have to run the wires along the frame back to the battery.

Pretty easy install!

Plus the wire that goes to the stator located on front of the motor close to the oil filter next to crank sensor, and your good to go. :whoop:

Thanks. Checked out your site - cool HID light kit. It just so happens I installed a similar kit on my son's (gulp I can't barely say it) Honda (there I did it). The difference in the visibility of the bike was huge for safety.

the bolts holding the VR to the frame are the ground. make sure you have good contact there before you spend the bucks

Thanks for the replies. I did the job tonight. Removed the battery box cover for easy access, replaced the regulator and carefully ran the new wire through the protective sleeve etc. Tried to get it as factory as possible, maybe even better. Took about 60 minutes. Fired the bike up and bingo the lights were brighter than I ever saw them before....put the voltmeter on and have 14 volts. Fixed.
