Hey all

I got an 04 Ridgeback i have owned for a few months now, i have some issues with popping on decel and spluttering when i really wind her open at high revs. I am thinking jets, but am trying to work out what exhaust system i have and what air intake this is, i have asked the guy i bought the bike off but he says that's how it came when he imported it and he don't know. Was just wondering if any of you guys maybe able to take a look and see if you have any ideas. Now for the tricky bit, i am going to attempt to upload the photo, it has taken me 3 weeks and some advice from Woodbutcher to work out how to post a thread, so don't hold your breathphoto (11).jpg please.

You did good Gary. You should find a thread on here about adjusting your S&S carb. Also if that spiked air cleaner is just hanging off the carb and not supported by another means it is a lot of weight hanging on the carb. I think the air cleaners are usually supported by the breather bolts. Good luck. I am sure you will get it figured out.

Thanks Frank, i even impressed myself there. Yeah it is just hanging off, no support anywhere else. I've been riding bikes for 30+ years and had them all from a 1981 Z1300 to a 2008 CBR1000RR. This V Twin thing is all new to me so any advice is greatly appreciated.

That's an oil temp gauge cap...:D :2thumbs:
what, is the tank mounted that low???? i'm used to mine being vertical and the cap/filler being under the seat. hadn't noticed that before. live and learn.
thanks, Brew, and good luck with the new business. :2thumbs:

looks like a D & M "twister" intake and you can buy a mounting bracket from them. google D & M air intake

You probably need to get the right mounting plate from d&m for that air cleaner, it has banjo bolts that allow for venting without the hoses hanging off the heads, if you have drop off at high speeds turn the air cleaner vertical and it will go away. I have the same setup on my ridgeback and it had been installed with the wrong backplate blew oil everywhere.the guys at d&m corrected the issue at Sturgis 3yrs ago and now no issues

Thats an oil temp gauge they made for the rigids and pitbulls really only fits 04 model however

On the rigid's thats where they place the oil tank. There is a slight disadvantage as in my opinion there is a slight design flaw in the fact that the suction line is at the rear of the tank, therefore when you come to a hard stop the oil sloshes forward and occassionally my oil light will then come on.

Now common sense will tell you maybe I am low on oil, well that might be true except I add more in it just blows it out.

I have thought about reversing the oil lines to where the suction is from the front except the fact that it sits about dead middle on the front of the pan so not the best spot either

Look at a Dennis Kirk catalog an I`ll bet you will find those pipes in there.. There cool...but I would drag those bustards down to a sharp point.. hehheh

Just a thought...... under hard acceleration u might want that oil line on the back, better to have complete flow to pump when your ripping on it then when ur clutching to stop hard at low RPMs

Thanks for that info Eric, i have also been wondering why my oil light keeps randomly coming on when the tank is full.

Thanks Wood, but I'm just helping several folks over on this coast with repairs and mods. I don't have time to start up a business...:D
