Anyone have a tire do this?

Left in the morning fine. Returned home in the afternoon and the tire has spots like this all the way around. Tire is also raised in the center where the spots are. Always keep 40 psi in it. Pressure is checked before every ride. Only has 2200 miles on it to boot!

From the pic it looks like the thread is showing through. That can't be true, is it?
Its wierd. It seems to be peeling like you would after a sunburn. Gonna email Avon today with the pic. hopefully they will help me out but who knows.

had a front tire issue with avon, they made it right, in your case looks like you have worn your rear tire down to the second layer

if its not burnouts and the wheel is aligned properly and the tires not rubbing on something then there's a problem.

Have you ever locked up the rear tire and skidded?

only problem is its an AVON. I'll never use them again and this is just another example why.

The tire is worn out, worn down to the inner casing. I had a Metz that looked similar, but it had many more miles on it than that one. The tires these days are crap. If you keep pressure up and ride conservatively you would be lucky to get in the 6000-8000 mi range with most tires. That tire at 2200 mi is prematurely worn out for some reason. Good luck getting Avon to warranty anything on it.

My rear tire did that after about 10,000 miles. It also was an Avon. Looked good but worn. Went on a 150 mile ride and it had bald spots like that!!!:flag:

That is down to the second layer of rubber. Tire is worn out.

My rear tire looked like that when I got back from Sturgis in 2010. Everytime I stopped on the way home I could see it had worn a little more. I was surprised I made it home.

One of the old ones.
What is kinda confusing is that the tire appears to still have some tread channels running across the worn stripe in the center. Every 300 I've worn out had smoothed the tread marks before the inner tire appears. I don't know how they make tires, but it would suspect something went wrong in the lamination. Sure gotta question their quality control ......

Get a Metzler and be done with it...:D
I looked for a 280/40-20 but seems theres not alot of choice in the 280 range. But i found a cure for that..... A new K-9 fixes the problem and went looking today and found :whoop: 2 :whoop: I'm looking at. One is orange w/ghost flames and skulls and the other is black w/ chameleon flames.
