Anyone ever upgrade/change their ignition?

I fried my ignition module last night, and since I need a new one, I'm considering just ditching the Big Dog proprietary bullshit and putting a Crane single fire system in. Single fire for no other reason then I have a really cool top mount/bracket laying in the garage that I'd like to use. The end of this season I'm planning on tearing down my bike and rebuilding it on a new frame anyway, and this would just be another part I don't have to buy later. Anyone have any input on this?

There are many of us that have done this.

Al and I (due highly to Al & Vickie's recomendation) are running Crane Hi4. Sul is running a dyna setup.

And as Al said in another thread
http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/v...sky-single-double-fire-igniton.html#post70105

Not necessarily, even the aftermarket ignitions like crane and dyna come in either a single or dual fire configuration. If whoever put your ignition in didn't change out the coils as well then you still have a dual fire ignition.
Yep but make a decision on single or dual fire or you will also need to replace the coil. There are also some ignitions that are available with the trimpot adjustments or one with a module that is tuned by laptop only, again your choice.
I would do the crane. Seems to work well. For you, I suppose your current setup is still in the cam cover... you could run the crane with the dual fire coils that you have. Save the 2 individual single fire coils, coil mount, motor mount project for later.

i dumped bigdog system a long time ago and went with thunderheart (twin cam ) system. it is computer programmable , comes with software, is single fire can also pick without computer. looks just like our stock unit mounts a little different but in the same location, the wiring is easy there is only 1 wire with different color.

I'm 04 Daytec with the 117 Garbot, thanks for the info I'll check it out! I'm also looking at the Dyna 2000i, looks like it all goes in the cam cover, and is programmable if I get the software? Only $259 on ebay.

Another round please
I have 04 117 also. I installed the Dyna 2000i. Works great. It has I think 7 presets, or you can get software also.
