Anyone ever tow a bike with a bike?

I travel all over NC, SC, VA, GA etc to pick up bikes. I've got a 01 Electra Glide and was planning on getting a hitch installed. I had a idea last night while I was hanging out with a few buds putting some brews down :cheers: ..... Don't know if that's a good thing or not.....:confused:

My whole idea it to take one of the motorcycle tow behind trailers, remove the luggage, attach a durable wheel chock to the frame that would allow me to load the front wheel of another bike and lock it down. The rear tire would stay on the ground. Tie it down and roll. The whole point is I'd much rather be on 2 wheels instead of 4.

What do you think?

Wow its like a car dolly for a bike. I think stopping could be tricky. I would have to believe the bike would weigh much more than the original trailer

closest I've ever come is when a buddy of mine broke a belt. We took his old belt and I pulled him about a mile with it to a shop.

Yeah, I'd be scared as hell to put on the front brakes hard. You'd just skid ( and most likely go down ) with all that weight behind you.

Maybe if you tried one of those single rail trailers they use to haul dirt bikes. I would still watch the stops but I think with the pivot factor of the front end it would be safer to have both wheels of the bike being towed off the ground.

^I'm with sparks, I'd have the whole thing off the ground. You wouldn't want to have to stop fast and have the tail whip around our something

I saw a dresser towing a chopper on one of those skinny little single rail trailers looked like it worked well. keeping the weight off the rear wheel is the most important thing you would have to balance the gear. good luck

Thanks all. To the doubters.....don't laugh. I may just become a bizzillionare for inventing the Cycle Towing Cycle Trailer!!!! and yes I've already copy writed, trademarked and registered it with the US Certification of FUBARED Ideas Society:2thumbs:. If this takes off I promise everyone here a new big dog of their choice.....

Back to reality, maybe I'll start withe a trailer and load it with 500 lbs then work my way up to 800 and see how it goes. The idea of taking the entire bike off the ground sounds better.

At one time there was a video on youtube of a thing called the towbike, that had extending arms like a wrecker and would pick up a damaged vehicle...if I remember correctly. Hell I have slept and been drunk once or twice since (sense,cents) then.

i know a fellow that tows bikes behind his. he races flat tracks here in texas....i think his tow bike is a 1100 suzuki........

You might play around with trailer brakes too, while you're at it. That may help with the weight problem.
