Anyone else seen this?

We were doing a beach cruise this past Saturday, and on our last stop I backed into a parking space, reached down to turn off the bike, and this is what I found. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I just turnd over 3900 miles Saturday. It couldn't have broken more clean. It looks like it was laser cut.

Gorilla Glue!!! J/K

That is odd given that there really isn't anything that would cause stress on that part. Maybe just a fluke but an opportunity to upgrade the system

I saw that happen to someone else on the old site. It doesn't show well in the picture, but they break right along a reduced area end mill cut with a small internal radius. That makes a stress concentrator for fatigue to start. I have the same piece on my 02 pro sport with 6000 miles, and I check it every so often to see if a crack has started along that internal corner,

thats the top motor mount. try taking the bolt to the frame out of your top motor mount and go for a spin. it'll rattle your fillings out!
I can tell when mine gets loose... everytime!!! Best thing to do is red loctite and Raywood's recommended longer bolts!

I had the same thing happen on my old HD. Twice! At about three grand it would vibrate like crazy.

I replaced it with a thicker one.

The step machined in the top motor mount where the coil cover mounts didn't have a radius machined it it.... stress riser. I've seen it happen before on a couple of occasions.

I can't believe you didn't notice it until you stopped
It was our last stop, so I may have had a few in me by that time. And I was probably ridin it like I stole it. :D
I'm not sure why, but that seems to happen every time we do that run.

The fun part is that the mount also acts as a ground. So I had to hold it together while my buddy cranked it. After it started it didn't matter if it was connected, it still ran and got me home. Now I hope I didn't weaken or overload anything in the electrical system by riding it like that.

Quick update on the broken coil bracket. It looks like Sul was all over it. There was a bolt missing in the top center of the bracket and I'm sure that caused enough vibration to crack it. I couldn't see it until I got the bracket off. You can see the new one I installed in the pics.

Thanks for the suggestions everyone, and especially Yelladog. I'm back on the road quick because of his help.
