Anyone change out the stock horn...

after having an intermitten horn (05 chopper) it finally died.
I looked up and down and all over the bike including taking off the coil cover assembly and still no horn. :bang:

Well thanks to BBChopper telling me where it is, by the battery behind the side covers.

If it's not a loose wire and a dead horn, I'd like to relocate it "maybe" onto the double wishbones up high so as not to be too visible yet accessible and hopefully LOUDER.
Which horn is the way to go if I need to replace it?

Also did a search for "horn" with no luck.

Anyone do something like this or similar?

Be careful, I have seen several threads on horn changes messing up the EHC….

here in southern FL (Miami) it's a good thing having your horn work. :up:
I'll check to see if a loose wire or something simple caused it to die.
Don't want to mess-up the dreaded EHC

I was tired of my horn sounding like a strangled duck so I replaced it right away. I went with twin 139 dB Stebel air horns - very, very loud. No problem in wiring it up, I still have my wiring diagram if you need it. Key to this install is to use a relay so you don't mess with the EHC. You use the existing low voltage horn switch to your new relay, easy to do. Run a wire from the battery for juice. You can get the Stebel horns all over the WWW - I got mine @ Twisted Throttle a couple years ago. They have a pretty good write-up for information if you want to take a look.

These days horns are useless. Those I have had to use a horn for....even in the car....can't hear shit because they have the windows up, the stereo blasting and a cell phone in their ear. :bang:

04 Chop - mounted where the stock was, front of rear fender, attached to the frame. Tight fit but it will work.

Gotta agree with COACH - now days horns are less effective.

well today I took off the seat then the right side cover and found the broken wire going to the horn. :up:
Turns out that the service bulletin that now uses the rubber type groomet and the aluminum pin that holds the side cover on was hitting the wire connector to the horn thus breaking the wire! :down:
I remove the horn assembly bracket loosen the nut holding the horn to the bracket and turn it (rotate) so that now the two push on wire plugs are at approx. 3 o'clock instead of 12 o'clock as before.
Now the two push on connectors won't have anyting hitting down on them and the horn is now working!

The horn is now louder than before I guess do to the wire breaking and not making a good contact.

As mentioned earlier here in Southern, FL (Miami) having a horn that works is better than no horn

Someone needs to come out with a 9mm horn.....that will get their attention :lol::lol: Sorry....feeling a little cynical this morning. Maybe those portable emergency air horns for boats....just replace the canister.

don't know if your aware of this but just about everybody down here is packing heat either legal CCW or throw aways.
