Anybody else blowing fuses with the Wire Plus?

I haven't, you must have a short somewhere. Is it the same one & which one is it?

I have wire plus with no fuses blowing. I agree there must be a short somewhere..

"grounding out on something"

are your wires covered good? if not they could be rubbing on something.

Probably the same short that took out your EHC in the first place...

All you can do is pull some connectors apart and start using the your multimeter. Sorry I can't be more help than that but I don't have a wiring diagram for the WP so I don't know where the fuse fits in.

:iagree: :2thumbs: :yesnod: A Very Strong Possibility!

Check the headlight wiring, it's the largest load outside of the starter solenoid.

Either that or you've got "something" wired up wrong!

Ummmm BULLSHIT
Unless the "short" is intermittent, this is only one of several viable answers!!! There is such a thing as too much current vs. resistance or impedance in a circuit for a given rated fuse to handle before the fuse fails. A short is a short (max. current at a given point in time) and is not usually in a dynamic state.

Many shorts are intermittent. Especially on an 700lb vibrator. I bet it's in the headlight bucket. Either a short or a melted connector.

Nope,
Been in there 2 weeks ago and all is fine. Very very small chance that after the recall / headlight connector fix that this is the issue. I think I know the problem but must implement the change before I can validate it.

What about under the tank? How long has the wire plus been on the bike? Any resistance from the headlight to ground?

I have a split tank and all looks fine. This would be 3rd or 4th on my troubleshooting list but a absolute for checking. I have the option of running without lights so I will test it under load tomorrow.

There are dead shorts and there are high resistance shorts both of which can be intermittent on a "700 lb. vibrator" like Vegas said... no bullshit!

Let me ask... What does the element look like after the fuse blows? If it's completely gone (or almost) it's dead short. If there's only a small section of the element missing then you most likely have something drawing too much of a load such as a chaffed wire.

I mention this because if you know what type of problem you have it may help to narrow it down...

PS What line/wire has the fuse in it?

You haven't even rode the bike yet with the wire-plus in it, correct?
So that would rule out vibration.

Don at wire-plus can tell you what circuit it is by what lights are on in the module before the fuse blow and what lights are on or off after the fuse blow.

Make not of that and call him tomorrow for sure so you can have a few things to try over the weekend.

Incorrect
Been on the bike since Monday. Has nothing to do with vibration! Got off the bike tonight after several miles for a couple minutes, turned the switch back on and had a very slight popped fuse vs. a "burnt" fuse. I think it is an over current condition based on one of my connections vs. a short.

Sounds like you're getting somewhere... Good luck!

This seems like information that should come with the WP doesn't it?

Just askin'...

I am pretty sure the issue is not with the Wire Plus product, but an issue from my installation. I am going to check / re-terminate some connections that I think may contribute to a over current condition. I will get this fixed eventually!
Thanks

Update: Removed a couple of crimp connections, resoldered and used some different wire on the grounds and no more fuses blowing! Wire Plus mod working well for me so far!
