Anti rattle springs

I took my bike out for a little test ride for the first time in 2 years and somehow this spring broke on the front brake. Is it ok to ride without? I’m not doing any long distance riding just out and around town basically. I’m just worried this spring might do more than the name implies.

There you go :)
The spring sits on that pin, pressing on each pad. Since it’s broken, there’s really nothing there now but a little remnant.

Thanks guys, got them coming in today from our local shop :)
I’m also replacing the pin which I ordered as well.
Have a look at the pistons while you're in there, Donna and Derek should have everything for rebuild... Your calipers should be part # 0052-2400 (pre-03).

Thanks, I’ve done that two weeks ago when I put the new pads in. I found the pistons rather tight, so I fixed that up. I blame the rotten shim job someone did before I ever owned it, since the rotor was rubbing on the actual caliper.

Those are better known as "Squid Shock Springs."
Racers like 'Rattle' which is music to the ears of no drag, but bounces off the disc singing their tune = Fractional HP drag removed.
Squids hear that shit and go batchit, because they like things quiet and can't understand race speak from the bike.

See the cotter pin holding the pads with that shaft ? That's what you worry about, not pad bang springs.
